Ds had his 7th birthday party on Sunday. The theme was Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory. It went really well. The kids had a great time and some parents seemed impressed with the theme.
I made up the invitations on the computer and glued them onto gold tissue paper for the golden tickets. At the bottom it said something about not imagining all the wonderful suprises that await them. Anyhow, it matched the golden ticket in the movie.
Well in the movie, the kids have to show up with the ticket and I put on the invites to present this golden ticket at our house but forgot about it. The kids came with the tickets. I laughed when I realized why. I was suprised but glad the parents remembered and stayed with the theme.
Instead of signing a disclaimer the kids guessed how many jelly beans were in the jar. I announced the winner later in the party and that person got to take home the jar of jelly beans.
We then started the movie. I made up hot dogs, candy bowls and popcorn, cheesies, etc. and they ate it while watching the movie. Dh brought home a projector from work so it was just like the theatre.
After the movie all the kids got a turn at singing a song on karoke. Then the b-day cake scene. I made the cake. The kids thought it was cool. I made a choc. cake with a choc. river running through the middle. I put green icing grass on each side and lined the river with lollipops. I made a gummi bear tree with floral wire and put that on one side. I spelled out happy birthday with candy letters and the border of the cake was gummi bears and smarties alternating.
After, it was opening presents, I squeezed it in at the last 15 minutes of the party which worked out well. The party was 3 hours, perfect timing. The kids all had a blast. I took a couple of group photos and took one of ds with each friend individually. I will develop these this week and get ds to write a note of thanks on the back of each pic. and give it to his friends at school as a thank you note. I thought the kids would enjoy getting this picture.
Just thought I would share. It was fun to plan it and the kids all thought the theme was cool. I was pleased at how well it all turned out.
