Need Help!
This is my first year teaching at Red Rock Head Start. I am very exciting about celebrating Christmas this year with the children in my classroom. We will be hosting a Christmas play/entertainment for the families this year. I need some help and suggestions to make our classroom entertainment original or something different. Help. :tree:

What about letting each one hold a sign spelling out CHRISTMAS -- then each one could say a line, like C is for ..., H is for ..., and so on.
Or, motion songs (finger plays) where they act out the songs as they sing them.
Not original ideas, I know, just thouht I would throw them out there.

It's always cute to have the children do a few fingerplays, and then have a sing-a-long. (Maybe do "Rudolph" with the children wearing antler ears....etc). Keep it simple....those programs usually work out best.
What ever you do, make it EVEN!!! Everybody sings. If one child has a line, all children have a line. Trust me, the parents will be watching!!! LOL

How come you are allowed to do holidays? I just started working at a headstart in OCT and we aren't allowed to do projects or anything related to a holiday. For Christmas that includes santa or anything like that. Although pine trees are acceptable Christmas trees are not. We don't have any children in our room that don't celebrate at home. We can only do a project that is holiday related if it is a parent initiated idea or a child's. But I don't see parents initiating I would like this project, which could be done this way. Halloween we stuck to pumpkins and Thanksgiving we were focusing on colors so we did a placemat of a turkey which had the different colored feathers, but we were supposed to have alternative animals like chickens etc.

Thanks purpled.....I asked the same question. Our holidays are nearly non-existent.....so much for addressing the reality of the children's experiences. I've found a couple of ways to sneak them in, but really struggle with shifting the focus in an appropriate direction.
Snow, snowmen, bells, colors, winter.....these are all appropriate seasonal themes that sometimes 'slip' over into holiday recognition. Good luck.
