I'm looking for a recipe for chocolate-dipped spoons. You use plastic spoons, dip in melted chocolate and any garnish desired. I know how.... I just don't have a specific recipe and since I will be teaching a class how to do this, I probably should know what I'm doing!!!! Thanks!

Welcome to the board!

Here's what I have...

Chocolate spoons

12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
24 sturdy plastic spoons (clear, gold or silver)
optional: flavoring oils

Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or the microwave. Stir in any optional flavorings if desired. Dip the bowl of each spoon in the melted chocolate so the bowl is covered and full of chocolate. Allow excess to drip off. Set spoons on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper, with the handles resting on the edge of the cookie sheet. Allow to cool. You can decorate these by drizzling white or dark chocolate over them in a pattern or randomly.

This is what I have in my files. I also included the candied spoons along with. Some of the info duplicates. I didn't edit just copy and paste. BTW - I haven't made these myself. I noticed the Mastercook files look scrunched. If it doesn't come through clearly (I think it will) I can e-mail these to anyone that wants them.

You can either use spoon molds with plastic stirrers or spoon handles available from craft stores, or you can just get plastic spoons and coat the spoon with chocolate. you get candy making chocolate such as Mercks and melt in a double boiler, then flavor with flavoing oil such as Irish Cream, French Vanilla, etc. Pour chocolate into molds with handles in place, and let harden. (or if your using plastic spoons, dip the spoon into the chocolate and pull out set on wax paper, let harden, then you'll want to repeat this it 1 to 3 more times to get enough chocolate on them. (or if your in a hurry just make sure the spoon is full of chocolate then let harden) All of these supplies are available anywhere that sells cake decorating and candy making supplies like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc. I bought little cellophane bags from a wholesale bag company but you can also use colored plastic wrap. Then I used ribbon to tie around the bottom of the chocolate and placed labels that I made on my computer on the spoons. The ones that didn't use them in their coffee, just ate the spoon like candy! :)

CHOCOLATE SPOONS
Get some good quality plastic spoons to start with-no flimsy cheap stuff! Try using gold or silver ones, clear is OK too. Also find some good quality chocolate and different extracts/liquors to make the spoons different flavors/colors. There is no end to the flavors you can come up with! Melt chocolate till it is liquid, watch out that it doesn't scorch...you can do this in the microwave. Add extract or liquor of choice (almond extract, Frangelica, peppermint, anise,Kaluah etc). Then just dip the spoon into the chocolate ...and lay the spoons with their handles over the edge of a wax paper lined cookie sheet till set. You can drizzle white chocolate in a design over dark or milk chocolate...or dip 1/2 of spoon in dark and 1/2 in while..best flavors mocha, mint, plain, raspberry...Don't just dip lightly you want a nice puddle in the spoon part and part way up the handle.

I wrap these in clear plastic bags tied with raffia and a tag stating the flavor. These are marvelous with coffee or cocoa and make enough so each family member gets 2 spoons each. They will clamor for more!!!

White & Chocolate Coffee Spoons

Recipe By :
Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Beverage Extras & Creamers

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
heavy plastic spoons
white chocolate
milk chocolate
sprinkles -- optional
colored sugar -- optional

List of suppliesHeavy plastic spoons White chocolate Milk chocolate Chocolate sprinkles or coloured sugar

In the microwave, melt half of the white chocolate in one bowl. Melt half of the milk chocolate in another bowl. (Of course, you can melt chocolates on the stove top, too.)

Dip half of your spoons in white chocolate and the other half in milk chocolate. Dip them as far as the base of the spoon's bowl. Place them on waxed paper and let them set completely.

When the chocolate on the spoons is set, melt the remaining white and milk chocolate in separate bowls as before.

Dip the white chocolate spoons in milk chocolate and dip the milk chocolate spoons in white chocolate. Dip them only half way up the bowl of the spoon to create a layered effect. Place them back on the waxed paper to begin setting.

Let chocolate set only partially (about 5 minutes). Then, gently dip the tips of the spoons in chocolate sprinkles or coloured sugar.

These spoons, wrapped in cello wrap and tied with ribbon make wonderful stocking stuffers. You can add instructions to your gift card (i.e. Stir me into you coffee).

I made these one year for all of my day care parents... and they LOVED them. :)

You’ll need:
24 plastic spoons
6 oz. white or dark candy dipping chocolate
3 oz. dark or white candy dipping chocolate (opposite of base chocolate, for contrasting drizzle)

Line 2 cookie sheets with wax paper. Place 6 oz. dipping chocolate in a glass measuring cup. Microwave on high for 1 minute... Stir. Microwave 1 more minute, or until smooth, stirring about every 20 seconds. Dip the bowl of the spoons in the chocolate covering both sides completely. Place on wax paper. Refrigerate until chocolate hardens, for about 15 minutes.

Microwave the contrasting chocolate according to the instructions above. Drizzle over spoons or dispense from a squeezey bottle or a Ziploc Bag with a corner snipped off. Refrigerate, again until chocolate hardens. Wrap each spoon separately with colored cellophane and coordinating ribbon.

Here’s another one:
Utensils:
2 saucepans or microwave-safe bowls
small wooden or plastic spoons, any color (I like the gold ones)
ribbon
wooden mixing spoons
plastic wrap or colored cellophane

Directions:

Place the chocolate chips in a saucepan or small microwave-safe bowl.
Microwave the chocolate chips on medium for 2 minutes and then stir with the mixing spoon. Let stand about 1 minute, then stir again until smooth.

Place the butterscotch chips in another bowl.
Repeat the procedure with the butterscotch chips - microwave on medium for 2 minutes and then stir. Let stand about 1 minute, then stir again until smooth. The chocolate chips and butterscotch chips can also be melted in a saucepan on the stove.

To decorate each spoon, dip one end into either the melted chocolate or the melted butterscotch, or dip a spoon deep into the chocolate, let it set briefly, then dip just the tip of the spoon into the butterscotch, layering the two flavors. Experiment with dipping patterns.

Before the dipped chocolate or butterscotch dries, sprinkle sugar onto the dipped ends of the spoons, if desired.
Place the spoon on plastic wrap and dry.

Wrap each spoon in cellophane or plastic wrap. Tie a piece of ribbon around the spoon to hold the cellophane in place.
