My son has been feeling a little blue lately. Our little girl is just starting to walk, and of course she's totally adorable and we are all over her cuteness. It's left our boy feeling a little...not quite sure what to make of it all. He asked me the other day if he could have a party "Not for my birthday or Halloween or anything, just a party." (Hmmmmm... Amy's mind starts to churn...)
We were reading through his magazine, Your Big Backyard, and saw a recipie for "Mud Pies" (Pudding, smashed oreos, gummy worms, coconut colored green. Very disgusting and great.) I had just cleared out my garden box in preparation for planting and thought it would be just the perfect spot. So...
Tomorrow five of his pals are coming over to make a HUGE mud puddle in our back yard and go at it. Then we'll have lunch, and make "mud pies" for dessert. I also found a recipie for "mud cookies" which we may send home with the gang. Fun, eh? I can't wait! Just thought I'd share. Amy

What a neat idea and how great of you! I am sort of going thru the same thing here. Youndest ds went potty on the potty chair for the first time tonight and I was so excited! (I think it's just a stage of being curious and wanting to be like his big brother, and isn't the actual start of training). Oldest ds was excited too, but then he looked sort of forlorn?. So, I reminisced about his first time and how proud we were and how he did such a good job trying to help/encourage his little brother tonight and always. I just feel so bad because youngest ds is in that fun stage (of repeating everything, putting more word together, and just being silly) and even though we still give oldest ds lots of attention and one on one I still feel bad for him. :\ I would like to do something special just for him. The outdoor party isn't really an option for me though since I am in MN. Okay, sorry I rambled here! Have fun tomorrow with your party! I think it's great! :)

What a great idea Amy! Where are you that it is warm? It's even cold here! LOL

Wow what a cool mom. I wish my mom would have done something like that for me. I was an only child though, so I never had to feel left out or like one child was getting more attention than me. I just always wanted someone to play with.

PS as your children get older they will remember things like that.

Sounds like a lot of fun! I remember when I was a kid my mom use to let us bring a little bucket of water to the sanebox and let us make mud cookies, cakes... whatever. She never minded if we got dirty or not. Her thoughts were that if we weren't dirty, we weren't having fun! LOL We never got TOO dirty but we always had fun. Hope your son and his friends have lots of fun! :)

I used to love making mud pies and throwing them at the house to see the "splat" they would make. I agree with Leigh that they will always remember those times. I sure do!

What a terrific idea. Afterwards don't forget to make clean mud. I got this off of the idea box about 2 years ago.

Clean mud
Toilet paper
ivory soap
warm water

tear the toilet paper into little bits - then grate soap add warm water and mix.

This is from memory. I have made it with the church kidoes and dd. It works fine with out measurements.

This will help clean them up afterwards!!

What fun! Can I send my kids over to join yours???? LOL
I like Kacee's idea of clean mud to play in afterwards.
Enjoy your day.
