View Full Version : Do you worry about Nutrition at meals?
is this a nutritious lunch...dinner...whatever...I try to serve something 1) that they will eat... 2) that is healthy....last night they did Chicken nuggets via the oven and a whole package of brocoli....now tonight...they will probably just eat pasta and mariana sauce...no veggie...how much do you worry about it...ps the kids are healthy does that count?

I'm always concerned with nutrition, for my dks and myself. However, if you can cook something they like and its nutritious, that's more than half the battle right there. If they ate a whole bag of broccoli and it wasn't smothered in butter, lol, I'd say that was a great meal. What is in the marinara sauce? Any veggies? Is it tomatoe-based?

Sometimes it works, and sometimes not. I will make spaghetti and meat sauce for example, with either salad (for older DS) or cut up veggies (for younger DS). I try to make sure there is a vegetable with the meal....but it doesn't always happen.
I don't worry about it a lot, just do the best that I can ;)

You mean my kids should be eating something better than the marshmellows out of the Lucky Charms?? LOL I do try to think nutrition when preparing dinner. I have a hard time finding veggies my ds will eat. He loves salad, lettuce only.

The Marinara sauce is vegetarian...actually its a garden fresh jar kind from Walmart...LOL..dh loves it...and so does the rest of the Family...it has chunks of veggies in it....
No butter on the broccoli.....ds loves italian dressing on his...but dd eats it straight...LOL..no salt or pepper on our table either...I guess I shouldn't complain...

sounds healthy to me :)
I don't worry about it at all. My kids eat healthy and junk food. They are not over or under weight. My ds is the pickier of my 2 dks when it comes to eating, but he eats a lot of things that kids normally don't like. My ds doesn't really like most fruits, but he eats a lot of different vegetables.
Renee, I'm sure your dks are eating just fine. Most of the things you say they eat are good meals. I don't think a kids is going to die if they don't get their 5 servings of fruits/veggies a day! Go with what they will eat and I'm sure they will be fine.

The marinara sauce even if it didn't have cut veggies in still would probably be a veggie because of the tomato. Sounds like a delicious healthy meal to me!
