View Full Version : bad habit (six year old boy)
ok ds has recently started ok this sounds so wierd.....chewing on the ends of his sleeves.....mostly sweat shirts....just chewing on the end...cuff....its soaking wet...what is going on...he says he is just board...is this like chewing your finger nails? anyone else have a kid/s with bad habits? I gave him some hard candy to suck yesterday and it stopped him from doing it but I can't keep giving him hard candy for the rest of his life...then he will get that bad habit...LOL...help...
I've known other kids who do that or suck/chew on the collar area. It's pretty gross! LOL I don't know how to get him to stop, but once it's a habit it's hard to break. Good Luck!
At least he doesn't have his hands down his pants like my ds does! LOL :)

My son chews on the neckband of his t-shirts when he is watching TV. When you point it out to him, he says he didn't know he was doing it. I don't know why either, but I am glad you brought up the subject. It could just be a habit -- like nailbiting, or something???
My ds chewed on the neckband of his T-shirts, he wrecked many shirts! I believe it was a nervous habit and he did outgrow it but don't remember at what age anymore.

My 7 yo nephew does this once in a while, too. Hopefully this is a habit that won't last too long for your ds. :) Good luck!
My dd sucked on her sleeves all last year-to the point of having little holes. It drove me nuts! It is a habit and she outgrew it this past summer (no long sleeves), but I just caught her doing it again a couple of days ago. I find that id the sleeves go over her wrists, then she is apt to doing it.

LOL! I see this at school all the time!!!! Drives me nuts! YUCKY!!!!!! I usually ask the children (if they are doing this) to roll their sleeves up. I agree that it is a habit. So far, my own dk's haven't done this. Now...the hands down the pants thing...well, um, my boys have done that. Especially with sweatpants (or looser type pants)...Maybe "it" just jiggles more in that style of clothing, or something?????( I just tell them to stop, and they do. I think it's pretty normal. Kids have done this one at school, also.

I use to have a little girl who just HAD to bring her blanket each/every day to day care. I didn't mind that except for the fact that she too LOVED to suck/chew on it all the time. Let me tell you, by the end of the week that blanket was pretty darn gross/stinky. Ugh!!!! You're lucky that he at least changes his clothes at the end of each and every day and doesn't get a weeks worth of spit on them. LOL I'd probably roll them up and hope for the best. :) I've also seen kids at the store who suck on their collar's... pretty common I think. :)
