Ds isn't a clothes horse at 4, but he has started picking out his own clothes, which drives me crazy! The other boys didn't start this so early. He picks out some wierd combinations.

Renee, Chimp is 5 1/2 and he recently started being "aware" of what older boys at the mall and P.E. are wearing. He likes long, wide-legged pants and long-sleeved shirts. He thinks Tigger is terribly un-cool now, but for some reason, Blue of Blue's Clues is still OK! LOL!

It's not too bad with oldest ds (yet) - I am keeping my fingers crossed. Hang in there, Renee!!!

Renee, I'm sorry to tell you, it may not be a phase. My youngest has always been particular about her clothes. She has a drawerful that never touch her body, but the ones she likes get worn and handwashed and worn and washed, etc. Part of it is the comfort--that was the driving force when she was little. But she has really rigid ideas on what looks good and what she likes. On the upside, she doesn't get swayed by every trend that comes along, she does all of her own washing, and I still decide on what's appropriate. I hope your dd has better luck learning to be flexible. I know you'll get plenty of practice in that area too. Good luck.

Both of our dds are VERY particular about their clothes, everything from colour to style to what to wear with what! They have both been that way since well before they were 4 so obviously since they are 7 and 9 1/2 this is no phase!

Both of my DSs pick out their own clothes all the time (6 & 9).
When I buy them clothes, they will look at it...if they don't say that it's great right away, I know they will never wear it.
It's a good thing that I have figured out what they will and won't wear ;)
Renee, I too am sorry to say it probably isn't a phase. My youngest dd has always been fussy about her clothes. Probably a bit my fault as when she was little she was always well dressed! Because of her size(very small waisted) it had been very hard to find her clothes but I found one store that had pants that fit her perfect, now it is easier to find clothes but she will only wear pants from Northern Getaway or Lasenza girl! Shirts can come from other stores but must be cool!
Oldest dd went through a grung! phase but is back to reality now:happydnc:
Ds got picky around gr 9 and I no longer pick his clothes, but Randy River is his favourite store and I do like most of their clothes so am quite happy to give him gift certificates there.
ARGH....I was this way as a teen, but 4 YIKES....guess I need to get used to it...she will listen to reason...so that's good...LOL...so far Walmart has what she needs and I can afford that....GIRLS....:\
Like the others have said it's not a phase. My dd (almost 8) is into clothing. Luckily she hasn't wanted to dress like Britney Spears yet! LOL She loves her flare pants and only has a few pairs, so if they aren't washed she has to suffer wearing her regular jeans. Sometimes she freaks out, but I basically tell her to get over it, she's not going to die if she can't wear her flare pants! I like you Renee don't go for the high priced clothing because it doesn' last too long when they grow so fast. I miss Target because they sold clothes she liked had they have cheap prices without cheap quality. I also like JCPenneys especially when they have sales.

When my oldest was about 4 or 5 I can't say that she was terribly picky... just insisted that her jeans had to have some kind of embroidery (picture type) on her pockets. Well... that didn't last too long but she was picky and aware of what she wore. When "Guess" jeans first made there appearance she just HAD to have a pair or two/three... Ugh! I can't BELIEVE what we paid for those. 8o She's still extremely particular about what she wear's... She's quite tall and thin and sometimes has a pretty hard time finding something in her size that she likes... so when she finally does she may end up paying quite a lot of $$ for it. When dd #2 was little she would have cared less what she wore. Now that she's older she has certain things she likes/dislikes... but no different than anyone else. Dd#3 has always been picky but we also spoiled her with nice and pretty expensive close right from the day she was bone. Of course... a lot of these things were clearanced out stuff or even garage sale items that I found that were in excellent condition. I will not even attempt to buy ANY kind of clothing for my girls because I know that we will eventually be returning it to the store for a refund anyway... so we've just started giving out $$ or gift certificates. None of the have really dressed real funky or "weird" or in any way I didn't approve... which I'm SO grateful for. Some of their friends have gone through a few phases that I'mglad my kids have not followed. LOL I honestly think they know better... :)
Good luck Renee... 4 is a young start for being particular but it's not unusual. Have fun!!! :)
Diane... :xmas:
