I'm just sitting here deciding if I am going to hit the malls today looking for some sales? In Ontario, boxing day is actually the biggest shopping day of the year . I dread having to face the crowds :( but I worry that I miss out on something ;)

Actually, DH is home today, so I think I will take advantage of it and spend some time on my own. Who knows when I will get another chance this holiday?

I know you can get some great bargains this day, but I try to avoid all shopping this day, unless it is late in the evening. I would love to buy some Christmas items for next year, but am not brave enough to face the crowds! Have fun shopping.

I'm going to try to at least get to Target today to see what toy's I can get on clearance for next year's Christmas gifts, or for the day care. :) I've already got SO MUCH Christmas wrap... so I don't want/need to get any more of that but I can't believe how much they mark those toy's down. Last year I bought a Snake game on clearance for $7.50. This year I saw it on the shelves at it's origional price of $27.00. It really made me feel good about only paying $7.50 for it. I hope to find some good deal's like that today but I've got to wait for my daughter to wake up first so she can watch my only 2 day care kids that showed up this morning while I race out quick. I hope I find lots of good things!

I hope to head to town after lunch! Last year I bought half of this years presents on Boxing Day!

Don't think the crowds will be too bad....we're just a small town and lots of people have to travel back home today. Bil/sil and their kids and my brother/sil and their kids are all leaving today.

I even got money for Christmas (shhh don't tell Ann! ) that I can spend on myself!

My dh is out with the dks shopping as we speak. Sears for him and Toys R Us for them! LOL They all got gift cards and are out spending. I'm going to take advantage of the quite house and clean! Doesn't that sound like fun!

I shopped a little this morning with my mom. I didn't "need" anything, but I spent like I did! I left some of it at my mom's because we didn't have enough room in the Explorer, plus I didn't want dh to see how much I bought! :nervous:  I did get trees to put in dks room next year and I am excited about that! :yippee: I would like to hit the toy sales later tonight.

LOL  Kacee

Boxing Day is the day after Christmas. Years ago, stores were closed on Dec 25 & 26 for Christmas and Boxing Day. On December 27, all the stores would open up really early and have great sales on all there merchandise. My dad used to have a clothing store, and it was definately the busiest day of the year.

The laws have changed, and now stores are allowed to be opened on December 26 for the Boxing Day sales. I guess that our Boxing Day sales, are the same as your Thanksgiving Day sales (I was in Florida once for the sales...wow). At our Thanksgiving time (October), there are no special sales or anything. It really isn't a big holiday here.

And that, my dear friend Kacee, is your history lesson today ;)

Isn't Boxing day the day that the Lord's in England would box up the goodies for their serfs? I thought that's where the name came from??(

I remember my Grandma telling us it was the day that servants in England got their gifts from their employers and had the day off--since they were needed on Christmas. Somewhat closer to Ann's explanation, but where's Mickey (or at least her dh) for this?

I found this on the net... I had to look it up because I certainly didn't know what it was. LOL

The day after Christmas, the Feast of St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr, is better known as Boxing Day. The term may come from the opening of church poor boxes that day; maybe from the earthenware boxes with which boy apprentices collected money at the doors of their masters' clients.

Nowadays, we often see, in certain families, gifts (boxes) given to those who provide services throughout the year.

"Boxing Day" is listed in the Canada Labour

By the time our company left around 3pm, when I did then get to the stores there was nothing left that I needed/wanted!
Oh well, probably for the best that way.
