Beth..where do we want to stay around Denver when we come up this summer for a Rockies game? I think we are going to drive (the cheapest ticket we could find so far is $372 per person!!! yikes).
Amy, besides the Broadmore..anywhere else that we should stay?

What are you looking for? A one of a kind experience, stragetically placed location )between the Springs and Denver or just a cheap place to stay to help with the high price of airline costs??

yes! LOL

We are going to drive so high airfare isn't an issue...cause we are driving I guess we have more options on where to stay for the bulk of the trip as long as we can get easily to Denver for the game.
We really like Colorado Springs and know of a ton of stuff (Royal gorge, Pikes Peak ect) to do with the kids. We were aslo wondering about staying at Estes Park...I am really open to ideas.

I knew you were going to answer a blanket "yes". LOL I heard Estes Park was really family friendly with lots to do. I don't know of anything comparable to that in the Springs. :(

Somewhere between the Springs and Denver is dude ranch chuckwagon dinner that I have been dying to go to with the kids. Includes the hayrides, song and dance and bonfires.

Let me know what you decide.!

Amy..is it a resort or just a place to go to dinner? We stayed at a dude ranch in the Texas hill country one spring break and it was a blast!!!!

you know..you have been of very little help!!! LOL

Its just a supper place (I think). I was researching dude ranches in Colorado a couple of months ago because I always wanted to go to one. They were running $5,000-$7,000 a week. Thats more than a Disney vacation!!!

What do you want from me?? I am a newbie of Colorado. Now ask me anything of the East Coast and Im a virtual encyclopedia!! ROFL!!

yes!! LOL I was a young lass with a dh who was gone 8 months out of the year, pregnant and strapped to a money pit of a house. I didn't have the money or the strength to go touring around Colorado than. Canon City, Colorado Springs (the southern end) and Cripple Creek were the only parts of Colorado that I saw. I still haven't been to Denver yet!! Hence, the bigg summer tour after dh comes back from Kosovo.

See, now don't you feel guilty for accusing me?? ROFL!!

I like Embassy Suites as a family place to stay. They are located in a couple of different areas in Denver. I have been to the Chuckwagon Family Theatre in Co. Springs and that was fun. I will try to remember the name of it.

Ok-you are killing me here! LOL Since Beth and I are hopeless and helpless-here is a site that lists interesting places to stay in Pikes Peak Area. You can do a search on Denver too.

http://www.caccl.com/pikespeakarea/

Here is a guest ranch listing too. The two closest ones are 1 1/2 hours from Denver.

http://www.coloradoranch.com/cdgra8a.htm

Shoot--stay at the Broadmoor, hit Manitou Springs (Great fondue restaurant there and shopping), Green Mountain Falls (you feel like your in the Alps)and white water rafting in Canon city. Heck, I'll give you a tour of Fort Carson! LOL You would be centrally located if you stayed in the Springs.

I have been having the week from ****. Started off w/losing our two dogs on Sunday. The big silver lab finally came home late Sunday (sounds like a teenager) nite w/o the 4 month old puppy. Picture two very sad children and two very sad parents. Spent all morning Monday looking for the puppy. Finally a lady 6 miles away from us called to say she had our dog. woo hoo!!
Besides that emotional upheaval its been busy each nite w/the elementary art show, tae kwon do etc. fun huh?
I am back now!!
I know I have read of a dude ranch in Breckenridge-it was listed in family fun. Might do a search of summit county for info on it.
To heck w/seeing Amy you can come out to exciting northeastern colorado and see how we hicks live. :)

Thanks for missing me~~

Im not sure where the middle one is located. West Colorado Ave... hmm....

I liked the El Colorado the best. Its in the mountains of Manitou and it is the best location of the three to getting to all the area attractions.

The Dude ranch would be fun, if you didn't plan on leaving the premesis. I would say it was about 45-60 minutes to Northern Springs. Rte 24 is a two lane mountain highway that is very busy in the summer. Cripple Creek is right up there-its a gambling casino town. They make it look as if it was right out of the wild west. Its a hoot if you like a show with your gambling. Plus I was annoyed by the site's music. LOL

Go with Manitou. Its a really neat tourist town with a lot of flavor. I'll show you my favorite breakfast place a couple of towns up in the mountains.

Bless your heart! What a week. I am glad the doggies have come back. We will ALL have to figure out a way to get together!!!!!!

Well, heck..we may be spending our whole vacation in the car!!! LOL DS wants to go to Durango (my dad owns a silver mine there...NONproducing!! LOL) so we are going to do that on either our way up or down. Looks like we will stay mostly in the Springs area so we can do all the stuff around there and just pop up to Denver for the game. I thought the El Colorado sounded fun too. DH was leaning towards an Embassy Suites (we decided to spend our money doing stuff versus where we are staying), but I think the El Colorado would be kind of the best of both worlds..lots of space to hang out and the kitchen..they don't have their rates on the web page so I will call.

Thanks and keep those ideas coming!!!

The Timber Lodge (middle one) is at West Colorado and Ridge Road..not a good area? Looked cool cause a stream ran through it for fishing..ds is dying to fish! It's a little more than the El Colorado but close in range.
Have you ever heard of either of these? I guess I am just getting scared cause the El Colorado was so reasonable! LOL

Talked to the manager of the El Colorado yesterday, she sounded really nice. Have you seen it?
Where are there good fishing places?

Oh sure--finding out about fishing places is just about as repugdant (sp) and searching for baseball fields to me !! ROFL!!

The executive suites are right in the middle of town and there is no tourist auora to it. I think its surrounded by 10 apartment complexes up and down the road. Stay in Manitou!! You will love it there!! That was one of the places I wanted to live when we moved back here.

If I'm still talking to dh by our anniversay this Tuesday-we were thinking of going to the fondue restaurant up there and I'll scope out the place.:)
