On the What's for Dinner thread, Angie's post about tomato soup (gags her ;) ) got me thinking about foods I don't serve to my ds' because of the bad "memories" I have about them! LOL Foods my kids will never taste (at my home, anyway)....liver (ewwww....we had to eat it as kids! Blucky!!!) and creamed corn! (Double ewwwwwww!!!! That stuff is nasty!) How about you guys?

P.S. I like tomato soup....but am not a fan of grilled cheese sandwiches.

I remember creamed corn. Sorry, Mary-I liked it,,,,,but now that I think of it, I have never served it. I think it looks gross, but it tasted good. My dds have never had peas served under my roof...I hate them. Forget liver--yuck! I also don't serve fish sticks, because I remember being sick after having to 'clean my plate' once. Thanks for the memories!!

With you on the liver thing! eeewww!!!! Love peas, though! Only LeSueur brand, though! dd eats them straight out of the can! For me, Dole Fruit and Juice Bars will never cross my thresh hold! They remind me of a time when I was REALLY sick with a sore thoat and that's all I could get past my throat. Now, I cringe every time I see them!!
Funny how we manage to hang on to things like this!!!!!

Okra! One night my dad tried to make me eat it all. I told him that I didn't like it. The electricity went out that night, and I remember him saying well now you can eat them because you can't see them. Have only tried it once since. Still want eat it.

My dad called it SOS (Something unmentionable On Shingles???)--ground meat in gravy over toast (my mom wasn't the best gravy maker). YUCK!

Can't stand tomatoes or onions--my mother put onions in everything and I still gag and choke if I accidentally have onions! I sat at the table staring at my plate until bedtime MANY nights! LOL!

I used to love creamed corn, too, but I've never served it to my family! LOL!

I can't think of a particular food necessarily from childhood, but I have never liked peas and never buy them. Yuk! I don't remember any horrible times of having to sit at the table and finish something.

btw - I love liver, but only eat it when my mom makes it. :licklips:

No bad experiences, just can't stand them, therefore won't serve them to my kids. Dh buys all of these.

Mushrooms
fresh tomatoes
olives
fish

I can eat most of these in a restaurant (except the olives and tomatoes), but refuse to make it at home.

I have to say that I don't think there is a food out there that I won't eat. Love chicken liver, not wild about beef liver but I will eat it. I just love food.

I don't know why but my dad always made us kids eat a piece of bread with butter with our supper... I HATED it and still to this day can't put a piece of bread/butter up to my mouth without gaging. Ugh!!! I was also never too fond of liver but I pretended that I liked it because my dad was the type that if he knew you hated something... he'd make sure you had the biggest piece or he'd give you more after you had already choked down the first awful piece. I have never served liver to my family and never will. I also use to hate pea's and lima beans but I can say that I love them now. LOL I also hated hash... I've tasted it since and thought it was good but I'm thinking that maybe it was just my mom's I didn't like. (sorry mom :( LOL) We always ate a lot of meat and I sometimes think that's why I'm not a real big meat eater. My dad use to make us kids eat the fat... he said it was part of the meat and so it had to be eaten. Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never made my kids eat what they didn't like. I didn't want to leave them with any bad food memories like I have. LOL

There are foods I don't like because of bad childhood memoires but I will serve anything. Just won't eat it myself. I don't cook liver because I don't concider it especially good for you. Don't eat it myself anymore but no bad memories. I'm just not a big meat eater.

My bad memory foods are mushrooms, beets, and rutabagga soup. I can't really remember the scene with the mushrooms but my parents say I would eat mushroom pieces straight from the can. Then one time they recalled a bunch over the radio as I was eating them. My parents tried calling the store and couldn't get through so finally Dad drove to the store for better information. The ones we had were fine but they said I was convinced I was dying. I just know I won't eat them. Once I was forced to eat all of my beets and got sick. Mom and Dad claim after one bite but I remember it being one of those clean your plate situations. We were eating rutabagga soup when one of those starving children commercials came on.
