View Full Version : TOO MUCH JUICE!!
I run an in-home daycare. I care for an 19 month old boy. The parents are concerned because he does not eat for them but he will eat most times for me. I found out in a round about way that he consumes a lot of juice for them. His dad took him to the doctor the other day and in a three hour period he drank 28 ounces of juice. I am trying to find articles to back up my concern that he has too much juice. Any help with this would be appreciated! Thank you.

Here are a few articles concerning juice and young children. I hope this helps. :)

That sounds like a lot of anything, juice, water or milk! That's most likely the reason he won't eat for them; his tummy is full of liquid, and that will make a kid (or anyone for that matter) feel less hungry and more often than not, queasy as well. Tell the parents to lay off the drinks, and offer him sonething juicy as a snack when he asks for juice, like a piece of fruit, soup, or even jello with fruit bits in it. Eventually the kid will get over the juice jones and eat normally.
I have been lucky that my son not only eats very well, but will try most anything. From a very early age, we encouraged him to try unusual foods, and it seems to have worked. He has eaten fried octopus, spinach, all of the things kids are notorious for hating.
Thank you for the links to the articles. They were exactly what I was looking for. I gave them to his parents. Thanks again!!!
