View Full Version : What do you keep your thermostat at?
we keep it at 66 during the day....it goes up and down at night on a timer....heats up at 6:00 am to 68 for a push....my SIL thinks we keep our house too cold....her thermostat is always at 70 or higher....so it got me to thinking...what do you all keep yours at....especially you all in the cold...

When we lived in our apt. we had a gas furnace -- and I kept it set at 70+ in the evenings, then turned it down at bedtime. When we were having our house built last summer, my husband had all electric, with a heat pump, put in -- and to me, no matter how high you have it set, you cannot get warm. Last week we had a gas fireplace put in -- now we are toasty warm, and have the thermostat set at 60 degrees. I am actually looking forward to getting our electric bill to see how much they go down.

I have been leaving ours at 68. My sister is always cold when she comes here, but I think she is just cold in general because I think it's warm in here. We have two gas fireplaces, but have rarely used them.
At our last house we had two thermostats - the one downstairs could be programmed, so that one would vary since we weren't down there all of the time. And upstairs I would turn it up whenever I was cold - which was pretty much all of the time there! LOL!

BRR!! I probably would find your houses cold. I'm almost afraid to even post this, but at the moment ours is set at 75. Our windows leak air and I'm not sure how well it's insulated so it doesn't feel as hot as it sounds. I hate wearing sweaters and bulky sweatshirts so I don't think I could ever get warmed up if we ran it lower.
I can not stand being hot! You can always put on a jacket, but it's kind of rough not to mention a little obscene to run around naked! ;) We keep ours at 67 in the winter and 72 in the summer.

74 downstairs in the winter - don't turn it on upstairs in the winter unless it gets really cold (heat rises). We're had a horrible time cooling this house last summer, so it really wasn't our choice - it was hotter than we liked it no matter what we did.

We don't have a thermostat. At our other houses it depended on the house and how much we could afford to pay. Here the pellet stove burns on low during the night and I use it as needed during the day. On days I want to get more done I run it more. I've found the more comfortable I am, the happier I am, the more likely I am to do housework. I'd be a happy woman at Linda's!
I have read somewhere that from a health standpoint you are better off keeping it on the cooler side.

Ours is on a timer...so it's low (67) all night....goes up to 72 from 5:00a.m. to 8:00 a.m., and then back down to 68 (I believe) until about 3:00 p.m. It's at 70 the rest of the night...until midnight, when the cycle starts again! My dh thinks this works best...I think it's confusing!!!! But we're not home all day, and there is a different cycle for weekends, so I really shouldn't complain. I'm with Ann.....I don't like to be too warm. At night I love to cozy up in a big comforter.

We keep our's at 70 during the day and turn it down to 62 at night. We sleep in a heated waterbed and it's always so nice and cozy warm under the blankets... but when/if you ever need to get up during the night to use the bathroom you really hate to have to take those blanket off because it always feels so cold... until you crawl back under again. LOL
My sister and her dh keeps their's thermometer turned down to 62 at all times. Every time when we go over there we all absolutely freeze our butt's off, and here they are running around barefoot and in their shorts. Burrrr! LOL Then during the summer when they have their air conditioner on it's still always SOOO cold... you'd almost swear it was going to start snowing. LOL
I don't like being cold and I don't like having to wear layers and layers of clothes in order to stay warm. I also tend to do more when I'm comfortable... otherwise you'd probably find me all snuggled up in a blanket on the couch watching TV. LOL

Ours stays at 67 during the day and when we get home in the afternoon - I bump it up to 71 until bedtime - then turn it back down to 67.

MM! We don't have a thermostat. But when it's in the 70's here, we shut the windows. Does that count? ßß!
