Has anybody started planning for Valentine's Day yet - other than putting up an avitar? Since I'm neurotic about these things, I've got quite a bit done already. I'm thinking of sending a party to Trey's babysitter's on the 13th - he doesn't go on the 14th. What do y'all think about the heart suncatcher craft that's on this site? You just put clear contact paper down, sticky side up and have the kids put pieces of tissue paper on it. Then cover it with another piece of clear contact paper and cut a heart shape out. I thought I'd send all the stuff for the kids to make that. I also thought I'd send plates and napkins, cookies to decorate and juice boxes. What do ya'll think? Should I tell her ahead of time or just send all the stuff? I don't want her to think I'm bringing it up just so she'll do it herself. Trey's the only child she keeps on this day other than her own two.
well, I picked up Valentines for the kids to hand out at K-mart the week after Christmas........Barbie ones for dd and Scooby ones for ds....we have lots of Red, pink and white construction paper...I purchased some white doiliy things on sale...lost of glitter and glue.....kids will make more Valentines for the windows.....
As for you dh and you, what are you planning? dh asked me today if I would like him to cook us a nice dinner...and after the kids go to bed....maybe watch out Favorite movie....."The Promise"

We did those suncatchers for halloween using a pumpkin die cut. We turned them into necklaces, the kids loved them.
For ds's class we have planned 3 games and a craft. For the craft we are making bookmarks out of that sheet foam. Games are heart hopscotch, pass the hearts (every child gets a plastic spoon they hold in their mouth and they have to pass conversation hearts spoon to spoon), and pin the heart on the bear.
I am making scoops full of kisses for ds to give. I bought a ton of tupperware scoops, fill them with hershey kisses, wrap with cellophane and attach a note....."a scoop of kisses for you."
That's it so far....ds's birthday is the 15th so I usually focus on that and not Valentine's Day. Since we aren't having his party til the 23rd this year maybe Brichard and I will actually make plans for ourselves to do something fun!

I'm not sure what dh and I will do, but I'm supposed to have class the actual night of Valentine's, so we can't do anything that night. I've ordered him a CD. Dh played in a band (around High school time) with a guy that now has a band called Iron Horse (there is more than one band named Iron Horse, I discovered). I've asked the guy to autograph it, but so far my check hasn't come through the bank, so I'm not sure how long it will take.
For dks, I've bought too much for Trey, so I need to catch the other boys up. Trey has a jumbo parachute guy, a worm farm type thing, a sand mold (all from Target - they've got some cute Spring and Summer stuff out already) and Valentine boxers.
The other boys just have Valentine boxers so far.
For teachers and ds's babysitter I have clear Chinese take out containers (The Container Store) filled with red crinkle paper and mini lotion, cherub soap, heart bath fizz, and heart nail file from Avon.
For ds's schout leader I'm thinking about getting a chocolate rose and having ds take it to her house.
I'm working on Hershey bar wrappers for ds's class.
My Mom is getting a new ice cream scooper and a gift certificate to Braums. We usually send dh's Mom and sister flowers.

The scooops are a cute idea. I saw on this site how you could make them with recycled detergent scoops, but the real ones are even cuter.
WOW, Donna, you give PRESENTS to all these people for Valentine's Day?????
I got the dd a groovy girl doll and ds a beanie baby, and I will get the ones for their classes, but I am not really into this "holiday". It has always seemed kind of phoney and made up to me.

I think that sounds nice! I'm sure she'd love a ready-to-go craft and snack! (That's one thing I noticed about my family day care...they didn't do a lot of crafts/projects. That was ok with me..my sitter had a couple of babies most of the time also). I might call and mention it to her...Just say that you are sending a little "party in a box" for the kids! Cute idea.

I got the ds' valentine cards from Current this year. Oldest ds is giving "robot" cards, younger ds is giving "monster truck" cards. Very cute. Other than that.....nope! We haven't had time to think much of Valentine's Day. Dh and I don't usually go out....to hard to get reservations, etc. We'll probably exchange cards and have nice dinner with the kids.

I bought some wooden hearts (different sizes) at Wal-Mart and painted them, and wrote sayings in puff paint, like the conversation heart candies. Then, drilled a hole and tied ribbon and hung them from the mantle at different lengths. It looks really cute!! So, I bought some more today and am going to let dd paint and decorate them with glitter, small pom poms, etc and give them as gifts. And I've got several other heart decorations around (candles, baskets). And get dd a sheet of window clings for whatever the holiday/occaision so she can "decorate" too!!
Before dd, I was never fond of Valentine's either, and certainly never decorated, but now it's fun!! I also bought candy molds to make chocolate lolipops for dd's class mates. And a small pan that has four heart molds, I'll either make little cakes or jello molds, also for dd's class! I can't wait!!

Donna - What a fun idea to send a party!!! :) Like Mary said I would maybe just mention to her that you're doing it.
Angie and Donna - Cute gift ideas!!!
Amy - What a fun idea with the wooden hearts and lollipops!!!
Dks would love to do that stuff!
Oldest ds picked out Scooby Valentines this week and he actually started filling some of them out. For his treat we are going to make little Valentine guys with candy (like the ones for Halloween). We are using Nerds for the body, Tootsie Rolls for the arms, Smarties for the legs and Double Bubble gum for the heads. Hope they turn out cute. :)
We usually buy gifts for dks, nieces and nephews. My sis and I talked about it this week and we are just going to buy for our own kids this year ~ it just gets to be too much. For dks I have jammies and new Rescue Heroes. And for dh I got love boxers at the Gap. :* :brow: ;)

I got the kids valentines last week. dd has puppies and kittens. ds has harry potter.
This is the first year in 6 years dh won't be working valentines night so I'm going to hide little valentines all over the house, each one will send him to the next one. And make him a special dinner after the kids go to bed.

I've hardly even thought about Valentine's day yet. DS #1 turns 12 on the 12th. I haven't even thought about we're doing for him yet.
I usually try to give the kids a little something like a book or barbie or something. So far I have some heart shaped etch a sketches (from AVON) for the 3 youngest. Not sure what I'll pick up for the older boys.
When we get paid again I'll have to buy Valentines for the kids to give at school.

Most of the craft sites tell you to use the scoops out of your laundry detergent. I have a friend that sells tupperware and they came out with these silver (plastic) scoops for your flour/sugar canisters. I got 8 for $1 so I stocked up on them over a year ago knowing I would use them for ds's kindergarten class! I will fill them with kisses, some people use hershey hugs too, wrap in cellophane and attach a tag "a scoop of kisses for you." Or if you use the hugs....a scoop of hugs and kisses for you.
You can probably find a set of measuring cups at the dollar store and use those if you don't want to do as many as I am. I did these for all the kids grandparents on grandparents day last year and they loved them.

They won't sell them in the kiosk, they were a thing that representatives could buy to give as freebies at parties. If you make friends with the person there maybe she'll get some for you!
