Yesterday I helped out at my ds's school for 100th day. Wow, that was lots of fun!! I didn't realize it was such a big deal.
His teacher read books about 100 day, the kids drew pictures of what they would look like when they are 100 years old, shared 100 things that they brought from home, walked 100 steps in the hallway and marked the spot they stopped, licked a sucker 100 times and some police officers came in and they kids gave them 100 stuffed animals for the officers to give to children to comfort them on calls they make.
They kids had so much fun....and so did I!! :yippee:
It's funny, at our school, 100th day is a big deal in K, but not after. DD was just talking about that the other day, she said "I guess that the little ones don't REALLY understand that means you have been in school FOREVER, so they can celebrate it"!!!!!!!! LOL

I spoke with my neighbor, who has a 1st grader and they didn't do anything for it either. I guess K makes a big deal of it because they are trying to teach the kids to count to 100 still!
My son said it was the greatest day and that he didn't have to do any "work" at all.

Sounds like you all had a great time Angie.
We only celebrate 100th day in Jk and SK as well. They also make a huge deal of it, shape of a cake in 100, counting 100 items, making a collection of 100 things, reading Winnie the Pooh and the Hundred Acre Woods, singing 100 day songs etc.
they made a huge deal about it when ds was in Kindergarden too...but not this year in the first grade...funny....
Glad you had so much fun....:) :D

Yep...I think it's definately a Kindergarten thing. My class will celebrate it's 100th day on Monday (February 4th). I have the children decorate crowns/hats with 100 stickers/jewels/etc (this is "homework"). The children also make a 100 collection and we display those. Each child brings 100 treats and we share those (100 cheerios....100 m &m's....100 marshmallows...etc). We read books about the 100th day (there are tons to choose from!!) and we draw 100 circles, make a list of 100 things that make us happy, and we walk around the school and say "hi" to 100 people. Sometimes we do 100 jumping jacks, 100 sit ups (5/child!), etc. I have a sweatshirt that I wear just for the occasion. I sewed on 100 big colorful buttons. It's a fun day. I think we're the only class who "do" 100 Day.
