Thought this would be interesting to find out.
With 1st DS.....water broke at midnight, contractions started shortly after, intense back labour, and he was born at 8:13 am...therefore ~8 hours
With 2nd DS.....dr told me to come to hospital because he thought I was carrying small.....he broke my water at 1:00 pm, back labour started immediately after, hooked me up to a drip at 2:00 to induce labour, and he was born at 2:45 pm (DH almost missed the delivery)....therefore 1 hour and 45 minutes
One year with each kid. ;)

With ds #1 my first minor contractions started around 8 p.m. Went to the hospital at midnight. Dilated very quickly to 8 or 9 and stopped. They broke my water....still nothing. (Ds was head down but face up and dr was trying to turn him during contractions).Ds's heart rate was questionable, I had the urge to push and was no longer progressing so he ended up a cesarean born at 10:10 a.m.
Ds#2 was a planned cesarean. At the hospital by 6 a.m. for preps. Two emergency births ended up ahead of me and ds #2 was born at 8:57 a.m. :)

14 hours here. My contractions started at 5 mins apart and stayed that way!! Dh was paniced about getting to the hospital, but I wanted to stay away as long as possible. We delivered in a different town, so we went to my sisters house. DH was dancing around with my neices.
Anyway, we made it to the hospital 2 hours before she was born.
What a long day that was!!

rofl AnnW!!
#1 - water broke 15 days early, ds was frank breech, born via c-section....never had a contraction.
#2 - tried to vbac, dd 9 days late, labored 40 hours and never progressed past 3 cm, delivered c-section.
#3 - scheduled!!!
dd- about 8 hours total, 2 1/2 of that trying to push her out! OUCH was that painful!
ds- 9 hours (painwise only 3 hours) and only had to push for about 45 minutes!

Ds #1....water broke at about midnight....he wasn't born until 5:30 pm the next day!!!! (Very long day!!! I had the whole gamut of pain medications/epidurals, etc!)
Ds #2....Contractions began at about 12:00 a.m. He was born at 2:00 a.m. Quick...but painful (no drugs/epidural, etc!!!)
Ann....awwwww! I love your answer!
Ds #1 was 23 hours, most painfree due to epidural
dd was an emergency c-section
ds #2 was 22 hours of hard labor( they wouldn't do an epidural until you reached 5cm) Finally reached that magic number, received an epidural and delivered ds 1 hour later.

Yea, we were pretty lucky. Both kids were almost a year to the day we applied.

Water broke @ noon and dd was born the next morning at 2:00 a.m. via cesarean.
The epidural was a blast - not. They kept poking me with a pin all the way up over my breasts to make sure I was good and numb for the c-section. :\
I'm thinking vaginal births - you don't have to be THAT numb. lol
I was about 5 days late.....my labor started at 12 am....ds was born at 12:35 pm....the next day
dd started at 8:30 am...and was born around 1 pm....that day....
I was extremely lucky...they were easy births...so they tell me...

Woke up Halloween morning when my water broke about 3:30 am; got up fixed breakfast for my husband (who had to go to work -- it was just waffles in the toaster oven); took a shower (against the rules, I know!); read a little bit of a book (what to expect when you are expecting -- I loved that book); called the doctor's answering service; he called me back and said get to the hospital right now!; drove to the hospital (it was about 5:30 by then); got pitocin about 9:00 am; got an epidural about 2:30 pm; went to OR at 8:00 pm; my son was delivered by c-section at 8:40 pm.
With ds #1 my water broke at 5:30 am. I took a shower put on "full war-paint", ate a big breakfast which my mom told me I really shouldn't do. I said, "I'd be in labor who knows how long and they won't feed me". So I ate. Big Mistake! . Ds was born about 5:00 pm. I pushed long before I should have and ripped and torn nine ways to Sunday. I had stitches every where. No drugs.
With ds #2 I went into labor at 24 weeks. Spent the day in the hospital trying to get it stopped. Then worried the rest of the pregnancy. Three and a half weeks early my water broke when I stood up for the invitation song at church. That was fun. Went home and grilled out. I did not eat this time. Then went to the hospital. When the doctor got there he said he wanted to stretch me some so I wouldn't tear. I screamed at him like I was possessed by the devil, "don't you touch me!" Ds was born at 11:00 that night. No drugs.

With a spinal you are much more numb than the epidural. Of course the recovery time is longer with a spinal and they won't even let you sit up for hours because of some headaches.
With dd I thought I would deliver vaginally so I had an epidural that they "loaded" (whatever that means) when they took me in for my c-section.

Let's see if I can remember all this:
Ds #1 Water broke around 10 PM,contractions didn't start until after that, got to hospital by 11, he was born a little after midnight.
Ds #2- water broke around 3:30 in the morning, contractions started afterwards, he was born around 6 in the morning.
DD #1 No contractions, no water broke. Doc scheduled me to come in and break the water at 8 am. I don't think he did it until 9 though. She was born at 2:04 PM
dd#2 woke up to terrible back pain. Doc said to come in. Broke water when I arrived around 8. She was born at 3:35.
Ds #3 Went in for a regular checkup on a Friday. The doctor said I was dialated enough and if I wanted her to break the water she would since she'd be off over the weekend. I ran home, got dh headed back to hospital. Broke water around 1 pm. He was born around 9:30 PM This probably would have went faster if I'd been up walking around more.
