Can y'all help me think of a little gift to help cheer up my son's teacher? Her husband was laid off 3 months ago, and in this economy hasn't been able to find another job. So this weekend they're moving to an apartment, selling their house and also having to put their dog to sleep! I feel so bad for her! She's really a great teacher and we've been greateful to have her for ds this year (this isn't the same teacher that I wrote about in the other thread). Fortunately we've got a great class of parents who help supply an extras she might need for the class (candy for treats and printer cartridges, etc.). I was think of flowers, but y'all have such great ideas, I wanted to try here 1st.

How about a gift certificate for dinner out or movie tickets?

Beauty salon gift certificate (that she could use for a haircut if she wants)?

Trying to think of things that are practical and will be helpful and appreciated since money is tight without seeming like charity.

Haircut/manicure gift certificate.

Treat basket (candies/lotions/candles/etc)

How about an inspirational book?

A big basket of Hershey Kisses and Hugs.

I like the movie tickets idea. Also how about having pizza delivered to their house for dinner one night.

Since you have such a great group of parents, would it be possible for anyone in the group to help the teachers dh to get a job lead? Does everyone know the situation? Maybe each family could take a turn providing a small dinner for the family while they settle into the apartment. Could you all chip in to re-stock their fridge?

What a sad story...makes me feel like I want to do something for her, too!:( :\

Sounds like you've got great ideas already. I'm sure that anything you do will be greatly appreciated.

You've gotten a lot of good ideas - how about a gift certificate to a teacher's store... I understand so much of what they do for the class comes out of their pocket.
I like the idea of dinner or a night out - help them get things off their minds a bit.
