I'm sorry Renee. We don't have cable so I'm not dealing with that.
I'll tell you this, on Saturday and Sunday mornings, CBS has all the good nick jr. shows on...... :) dd likes to watch those.

Don't have cable either, but when we did, that station was never on after 1 pm (when Nick Jr. ended). We'd watch The Wild Thornberrys at night sometimes, but none of the afternoon shows. Saw Cat Dog once and thought that was awful! Having Nick Jr. on CBS once a week works for us.

My kids like the Nick Jr shows too. They usually turn the tv off or change the station by afternoon though. About the only safe channel we've found is PBS kids. It runs the same shows, Arthur, Barney, Caillou, Clifford, 24 hrs. a day. It's a separate channel from PBS. We get it off the satellite.

We don't have Nickelodeon or Nick Jr but we did see a show not too long ago along those lines called "Mega Babies". OMG it was disgusting, even the dks asked to change channels.

Ditto! We didn't have Nick or Cartoon Network before we moved here and can't say we were missing out on anything! Ed, Edd and Eddy is awful! Ugh!

Amen sister!!!! I sat with my mouth open the first time I saw a commercial for that show. Egads!
we aren't impressed with nick either. our cable provider has a deal where you can pay $10/month and they can watch all the shows they want. little bear, clifford etc. Its an on demand type of deal. Personally, I wouldn't do it. They can go paint or something before I part with ten bucks to make them even more demanding LOL.

So glad we don't have TV... :)
We didn't have tv in our old mobile home because we weren't able to put up an antenae and didn't want cable because of the expense and content. Now in our new house we just haven't bothered to put up an antenae. I'm glad we haven't. I do more with my kids and my kids play more and are more creative without it. Dh and I watch maybe a movie a month not including sitting down with the kids to watch theirs. The kids get one movie a day usually.

I couldn't imagine not having tv... 8o I'm not a BIG tv watcher, but I have to admit that this winter I've probably watched a lot more tv than I ever have. It's a nice way for me to sit and relax at the end of my day. Can you believe that we have 8 tv's in our house? Ugh!!! :biglaugh:

The newest show in the Nickelodeon line up. Lovely? The commercials say something like..... "I am butt ugly and I am fabulous." http://www.nick.com/all_nick/tv_supersites/buttugly/

ROFL! Well, I guess that is better than saying "I am butt ugly and shouldn't be allowed to live cause I am so ugly!"
It definitely puts a spin on self esteem issues! LOL

I am with you guys! I think that it is horrible some of the things they market for kids. Just because it is animated, doesn't make it ok. I have both the cartoon network and Nick blocked with the parent controls on my tv. Cartoons used to be fairly harmless and mostly silly, but now I think they teach my kids things they don't need like disrespect and how to be mouthy. (I don't know about you, but I am sure my kids will learn that on their own eventually without any additional help)
I love PBS kids and Playhouse disney. Rollie Pollie Ollie is a favorate in my house along with Sagwa and Clifford. I like the Nick Jr. stuff too like Blues Clues and Dora the explorer that they have on Saturday mornings. And I love the parental controls on my TV that allow me to block things by rating and by channel.
