tell him to quit reading the newspaper or anything else that is paper-based. That tends to dry out the hands. Also lansinol (i think thats what it is called. Its the stuff for sore nipples while breastfeeding). Lay it on thick and have him wear socks around the house and to sleep in. My dad swears by crisco.

Renee - dd has very dry skin and hers will crack and bleed during the winter. We use CETPAHIL lotion (you can find it at WalMart)
and it makes a world of difference in no time.

Ditto about the products recommended. And, like Jeff mentioned, I have also heard to put the lotion on (or Vaseline) and then wear socks so it soaks in.

Good luck to your dh!!

Mine crack and bled in the winter too, especially when the weather is very cold...I found that I like these the best Udderly Smooth cream(walmart), Base Glaxal or Avon's Extra Strength Moisture cream work well.

Good Luck to DH

I have special pairs of socks and gloves just for this purpose. I lather on a thick coating of vaseline and put them on for the night. Don't know if men would be willing to do that. My dh wouldn't.

I found my cure to be Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream. I had been having so many problems with my hands and now I don't! I hope you find something that works for him!

It just so happens that tonight when I was watching TV a commercial came on about Neosporn (sp???) being good for dry/cracked hands. It say's it moisturizes AND heals... Just a thought. I also heard that using plain Vasoline works well... I've done this in the past and it's worked really well. I hope he finds something that works for him. Nothing worse than dry/cracked hands. Ugh!!!!!!!! 8o

Mine used to do the same thing and bleed also. My mom gave me a parafin dip machine for my birthday to do my hands and feet. what a difference. I put moistizer on before I dip then leave it on for 15 minutes I do it every other day.

My brother-in-law is a doctor and they are obviously washing their hands constantly. He uses and recommends Curel Therapeutic Moisturizing Lotion. You can find it anywhere, ie Wal-Mart, etc. Hope it helps!

When my hands were so dry and cracked/bleeding this is exactly what my doctor recommended... and it worked! 8o It wasn't too fun wearing them to bed and I hated the feeling of all of that vasoline on my hands... but having them feel better during the day made the night time routine I had to go through well worth it. :) Good luck... I hope he's found something that works for him. :)

I saw it too, and just yesterday started using it on my hands because of all the little dry cracks/cuts. It makes good sense to heal the cuts. This blast of cold has been awful on my hands and I don't even work out in the weather. I had seen this thread reappear and I thought I'd pass this info on only to find that Diane had beat me to it.

Go to your local health food store and get some vitamin E softgels and take the recommended dose every day. My son naturally suffers with cracks under his armpits, behind his knees, and rashes on his legs and when I go a few days without adding it to his juice, he starts the itching. He is only 2 so I poke the softgel with a needle and squirt it into his morning drink. I also make homemade bread from freshly ground wheatberries and that has lots of vitamin E in it to.

I guess I said all that to say that it should help with cracks on the hands.......

It also helps to rub the vitamin E oil directly on the skin. Another little FYI... vitamin E oil is wonderful for helping to reduce scarring from cuts, etc. Vitamin C oil is great on the face as an antioxidant.
