No advice for you -- just commiserating. It has only been in the last few months that my son would wipe himself! I just tell him to wipe until the toilet tissue is clean, then wipe one more time! And that if he doesn't get himself clean, he will get sore.

I'm right there with ya Renee! Don't have the skid marks though because 4 yo ds still wants me to wipe for him. Ugh! Hopefully someone will have the magic advice for us! LOL!

Sorry girls, ds is 7 1/2 and all of a sudden he says he needs help!!!! I tell him he is way to old for that and to figure it out by himself. lol. Regression I guess.

Whew!! Brichard has been all over me not to help ds wipe. At least I know we aren't alone now! We show him how and he just won't do it. Help me too! Dd who is 2 years younger totally wipes all by herself.

Same boat here...thinking of trying those wipes you can buy and have him do a second wipe with those (?). Anyone try those?
Maybe it's just a boy thing because my ds has problems too. In fact I have even told him I would gladly help him wipe just so that he won't leave the skid marks! He gets a little embarassed and says he can do it on hims own. ?( It doens't happen all the time, but enough that it really irks me!

I was about to die laughing when you mentioned Brichard- I thought you were going to say he had the same problem! ;)

LOL Maybe it IS a boy thing....because we see the same problem here! My almost 6 year old would still like to be wiped...but we make him do his own, unless it's a really bad one. Ds (8) is always in such a hurry, that I'm sure that's what his problem is! No advice....I just think it's very common. I've had kids at school ask me to wipe them...and I have to say "no" and encourage them to do their best.

I think it really IS a boy thing. I've potty trained a LOT of kids and nine times out of ten... it's the boy who won't/can't wipe his own bum. I don't know WHY either. One little guy had his mom convinced that his arms were too short and he couldn't reach it. LOL I've only had one little girl who would do it just fine here at my house but wouldn't do it at home, which proved that she "could"... but she just didn't want to. When I'd ask her why she wouldn't do it at home too and all she'd say was that she liked it better when mom or dad did it. 8o Who knows, but it IS frustrating though and I feel for you. I hope you can come up with some great/wonderful solution... and when you do please share it with me. :)

It's probably because girls have to wipe every time they go to the potty so it's just one more place to wipe.
but with girls its the make sure you wipe front to back...never back to front....oh the joys of parenting...LOL.
