Who would or wouldn't you want your kids looking up to? Carmen Electra, Cindy Crawford, Madonna.. Well, it seems that good girls finish last. Cindy may not be the spokesmodel for Revlon much longer. While the other less Look-up-to-able models have contracts coming out their noses!
Right now my dd who is three and a half, looks up to her Aunts and myself...which is wonderful....lol...ds who is 5 and a half, looks up to his father and his Uncles...I guess I am lucky.....

Ds #1 who is 3 1/2 looks up to his "older" cousins (one who is 6), his uncles and dh. My dh coaches basketball and football, but ds wants to play hockey like his uncles and cousins! Uh oh! :) Youngest ds does EVERYTHING his big brother does!!

I think all little kids look up to parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. I would think that Costa was probably talking about older kids. I have friends whose daughters think Britney Spears is the greatest and that's pretty scary! I do think it's sad that "good girls" don't seem to be as popular as the "bad girls". But that's the way it always is--the ones who are controversial and immoral get the most attention. Nice message for our kids, huh?

What exactly does she do that makes her a "bad girl"? She does dress more provactively now, but that has opened up great conversations with my dd about what are the "right" kinds of clothes for the occassion and how this is her "costume". I look at this alot like how people were shocked over Elvis (the pelvis) and the Beattles long hair when I was growing up. btw..saw Britney in the airport and she was just dress in jeans and a regular t-shirt...when I told dd about seeing her, I mention that too! LOL

I've read that she's not the least bit sweet...that she's actually very bi*%^y. The video I've seen was a bit sexy for what I would want my 9 yo dd to mimick (if I had one!). She was caught with her microphone on and had a gutter mouth. She just doesn't have an Amy Grant reputation, that's all. Notice how 9 yo girls aren't flocking to Amy Grant concerts and dressing like her? LOL!

I think the point here isn't Britney Spears in particular, but more the fact that a sweet and wholesome image doesn't sell like sexy clothes and movements and bad reputations.
Well, Amy Grant had an affair and left her husband to marry Vince Gill.....
think it just goes to show you that none of them are as they appear to the public.

Wow! I didn't know that! Guess image is deceiving sometimes, but a sweet and wholesome IMAGE still doesn't sell like a sexy and immoral one.

REALLY? She had an affair? I heard her dh had a drug problem off and on in the marriage and it finally destroyed the relationship. Never saw any "real story" in print though. Where did you hear/read that?
Hmmmmm .... as for who my kids look up to. My 12 year old lives and breathes swimming and so she looks up to Jenny Thompson. And my 10 year old, well, she looks up to Amy Grant! LOL!

some mainstream magazine like Ladies Home Journal or McCalls did a story her, talked about how she took some flack from her Christian fans about this.
I have 3 boys ages 6,6 and 8 all 3 look up to me and their mother. That is why we both pray that Jesus makes us more like Him every day.
I see that your right about most small children looking up to family members.....as far as who I would like them to look up to? I don't know...by the time they are 6 or 9 when do they start wanting to emulate after stars or famous people? I think they will have other options Britney Spears will be too old...LOL...the Back Street Boys ancient......
Yeah, I always liked Amy Grant until I heard her on some talk show on yes a Country station talking about her affair with Vince and them marrying...she had to follow her heart...yikes.....
I guess you never really know....hope my kids want to emulate a great teacher they have in school or an older cousin that is doing good....LOL....

So far as I've noticed my kids have always first looked up to us... their parents. My youngest dd can't STAND Brittany Spears (thinks she's slutty looking) and ALL of my dd's use to look up to Amy Grant until her affair with Vince Gill. Other than that I don't think that they've really looked up to anybody. I think that even if they did... when it comes right down to it, YOU'RE the ones they end up look up to the most.

My oldest dd looks up to JK Rowling a great deal, and she also loves Mia Hamm (US Women's soccer) as well as her former kindergarten teacher who is one of the most gifted and special people we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She also learned about Mother Theresa a few years ago in Catechism and that had an impact on her.
Youngest dd loves the actresses on Full House :) She also looks up to the same former KG teacher.
This year at school the girls are learning Japanese, and they have a wonderful exchange teacher from japan, her name is Akiko, and they think she is just amazing. She puts so much effort into her lessons, and the kids are fascinated with her and Japan. This year the entire school sang Silent Night in Japanese which was really neat to hear!
Both dds like Britney and Christina Aguilera for their music, but they think they dress inappropriately, which I agree with.
