I hope someone is on early and can help me with this. I really don't know much about crock pot cooking so this might sound silly, but here goes: I have a 2 lb marinated (honey mustard) boneless lean pork roast. However, it is frozen. Do I need to defrost it in the microwave before I put it in the crock pot, or can it go in frozen? Will it lose the flavour of the marinade if I put it in the crock pot? How long and at high or low? Maybe I am better just cooking it in the oven? Help! Thanks!
I looked in my crockpot book and don't have much to offer. Non of the recipes talk about frozen meats but it did make reference that it shouldn't be done with frozen fish recipes (whatever that means). Good luck!

Thanks for trying Jeff. I know a lot of the ladies on this board cook in crock pots so I am hoping some takes pity on me and posts back, lol!
Kathy, you can't put it in frozen. Thaw it first. Cooking times would be 4-6 hours on high, 8-10 on low. The marinade should really soak in while it's cooking. Sounds wonderful.

I've always taken mine out in advance and thawed it out or I've thawed it in the microwave before putting it in the crockpot. It sounds really good... enjoy!! :)

I've put mine in frozen before and it will cook just fine. Be sure you get it to the proper temp, I'd say, 180 degrees to be sure. The reason they tell you not to cook from the frozen state is because the meat stays at the improper temp for too long. So as long as you cook it to the right temp you'll be fine.

I'm assuming the only difference it will make is that it will take a LOT longer to cook. How much longer is questionable... ??? I've never done it before so I can't really tell you. I'd turn it up on HIGH and see what happens... either that or take it back out and thaw it??? ?( LOL

I think at this point I'll let it be. It's been it on high for about 4 hours. Hopefully it'll be ok:rolleyes:

If you were going to go ahead and put it in frozen, why did you ask us if you could??????????? :newwink: LOL
I think it will be fine. I am excited to know that you can put in frozen meat, for some reason I remember reading that they shouldn't be frozen, but I did a search and this is all I could find out about it.....
Can I start with frozen food?
Rival recommends adding about 1 cup of warm water to a recipe using frozen meat, which will help minimize the temperature extremes and serve as a "cushion" to protect the crockery.

Ann, I posted my question at 8:44 AM! Jeff answered but didn't know, and then you didn't post until 11:46 and then Diane and angie after that, so I made an (un) educated guess and stuck it in!!!!!!! That was 3 precious hours of cooking time!! I was looking for a faster response I guess, but there's that time zone issue again :newwink:

How did it turn out? Sounds yummy!
Whenever I do roasts in the crockpot I put them in frozen and they are always good. (I do add water to the bottom.)
I have put them in frozen before and haven't had any problems.
