View Full Version : Anyone taking Estroven or HRT's?
just curious...I am exploring the possiblities of Estroven for my major mood swings and well...Bitchiness.....and was wondering if anyone here knows anything about this particular supplement....
thanks in advance....:D
Don't know anything about that one, I am fighting HRT's tooth and nail though, but I am afraid I am going to have to take something too. I tried the progesterone cream, but keep forgetting to use it! LOL

Are you talking about me? LOL I went to the dr a while back because of my mood swings and the way that I was feeling...
he put me on the pill. I'm a few years younger than you so I don't know if he would have thought that estroven or an hrt would help me. Anyway, I actually have been a bit better in the month that I have been on the pill. He also prescribed Zoloft, but I felt so sick after taking one pill I never took another! I think the pill alone is working though.

Describes me, too! What is it?? LOL! I hear more and more women saying this, so that is reassuring! ;)
My dr talked about putting me on the pill as an option, but I had a few other symptoms, so she ended up starting me on Celexa. So far so good. :)

I'm also glad to know that I am not alone. I have quite a few symptoms of a few different things. The dr said I have a mild case of depression, but he mostly thinks that I am suffering from SAD (seasonal something disorder) and that my hormones are a bit out of wack. (more than you wanted to know, huh?) I need to start excersizing again, but it's hard with the weather, working and my dh's work shift. I ordered the tae bo tapes and am hoping that I can do those in the morning and that it will help.

Jen - You are definitely not alone. I was leery about going on a med, but am glad I did. I feel so much better and feel more liuke myself again. :) There, now my secret is out! ;) Hope the exercise works for you and that you get thru your "rut" soon. I'll chat anytime if you wanna. :)
OMG, Karla..well, my whole opinion of you has completely changed!!!!!!! LOL You goof, you can tell us everything here! This truly is the ONE safe place on earth!
I have got to do something, hormone wise, but am fighting tooth and nail cause of all the risks association with HRT...breast cancer, ovarian cancer..offset by less risk of heart disease and osteoparosis...I don't recommend getting old..it sucks! LOL
But I am losing it..bad PMS (which is really quite ironic since I have no period!) but the worst is feeling like I am in a fog all the time...I can't remember things, my brain feels slow, I know my responses have slowed down, even stupid things like I make more typo's. I asked my nuerologist about alzheimers but he said that hormone imbalances can cause that! (but my hormone test all come back normal)
so now you know my dirty little secret..I am losing my mind!!!!!!!!

A few years ago I was having some problems with moodiness...lack of sex drive...hot flashes, etc. My doctor thought it might be my thyroid...but it wasn't. Then he suggested that I might be having "pre-menopausal" symptoms and put me back on the "pill". (I really didn't want to go back on it...but it did do the trick! My moodiness was more manageable, and the hot flashes stopped. The sex-drive thing just worked itself out, too (not sure if it was because of the pill, or that the moodiness was gone.) Plus, my complexion was great!!!) I took myself off the pill about 6 months ago, because I thought it might be hindering me from losing weight. I haven't had any problems since so I'm not planning to go back to it.
your input has really made me feel alot better....at 35 I am determined NOT to go back on the pill, I was on it for 10 years...and smoked back then....too many risks for me...especially since I have lived with blood clots with dh....this estroven seems like something I need to talk with the doctor about.....I just feel like an angry BAT :blackbat: and I am no where near PMS right now....just crazy, irrational lady.....sex drive is good....:* but the explosive anger, especially at dh...is kinda scary.... especially for him....LoL.....
thanks again...

Thanks. I truly am glad to know that there are others going through this too.

I've gained 5 pounds in the month that I have been on the pill again, but then again I have on't excersized one day. I'm hoping that with excersize an watching what I eat I can take that 5 lbs off!

Thanks. Even my neurologist thinks it's hormone related but I am stalling getting tested again cause if it isn't, that just means that I am going insane!!!!! LOL
Ok, I just read all of these posts and realized that my PMS question could have gone in here - Wow!!! it is so nice to know that I'm not alone!!!

Oh, Ann I also tried the progeterone cream and couldn't remember to use it - plus you have to rub it here then rub it there - maybe I should try it again.

that was my problem too...couldn't remember where I rubbed it the last time!! LOL
But, I will say that it did do alot for my sex drive and if you applied it right before hand in an :o :o intimate spot, it really made the whole experience ALOT more fun!!!!! gotta get that stuff out again :o :o :o :D :D ;)
OOOOOOOOO...I think that I will have to get that cream out again too!! Actually I think that I need to order some more - You are right about exercising during PMS too - sometimes I slack during that time and I know that I shouldn't.
I'm going to skip taking the meds and just stick to the cream and make sure I hit the treadmill.
Funny thing - we were in Hawaii for two weeks before I started my last period and the PMS didn't seem to bother me :) I'm thinking that maybe that is the ticket!!! I just need to head to Hawaii every month! ;)

Where in Hawaii were you? We went years ago for our 5th anny and stayed at the Kapalua on Maui and the Mauna Lani on the Big Island...wonderful! Want to take the kids there sometime.
AnnW, we were first on the island of Oahu in Waikiki beach area and then went to the big island and actually stayed up in the Volcano National park. My in-laws live there in the winter and jump around from island to island so we went to visit them. Was absolutely wonderful!! I lived in Kona for about a year when I was younger. My husband had never been there before and just fell in love with the place. The kids had a great time - and it was tons of fun hiking all over the volcanoes and learning all about them. We saw lava flowing at night and it was just so cool!
We've heard that Maui is just beautiful - I'm hoping to go back (soon) :) We've even been on the internet checking out places/condos for sale :) (I think that we are just dreaming) :) People have told us that it takes about 5 years to get over a vacation to Hawaii, I think that they are right.
After seeing the Big Island, I am completely convinced that the whole Moon Landing and Neil Armstrong walking on the moon was a giant hoax!!!!!! That island IS the moon!!! LOL
We had the best time there...so many wonderful things to do on that island alone. Did you go to the Waipio Valley..we went horse back riding there...too cool. Maui was beautiful, but I have had the fortune to go to many pretty beaches...loved the big island cause it was so different!
I don't know if we were near Waipio Valley or not - we did drive around the entire island one day - was fun to see all the different places. Stopped at Hapuna beach for a few hours.

I was on Estroven for a while but it really wasn't doing too much for me so I started using Healthy Woman instead... It's got a lot more of everything in it and it really seemed to help me a lot. I ran out about a month ago and haven't gotten any more, and so far I seem perfectly fine... :) As a matter of fact... dh say's I've been in a fantastic mood, so I guess I'm at least headed in the right direction. :)

My sister took it and she didn't have hot flashes... it didn't hurt her. If your concerned... call your dr.'s office and ask. I didn't like St. Johns Wort either... gained weight from it and I didn't like the way it made me feel. ?( One of my friends takes it and swear's by it though... I guess it totally depends upon your body. :) Good luck!!

Diane, Estroven and Healthy Woman are over the counter right? Is it just a mix of vitamins? They don't have estrogen in them do they?
