View Full Version : Why do we sabotage ourselves?

I know Amy did a post on motivation... which is really important. But have you ever just noticing that you are sabotaging your diet/exercising program? I couldnt' work out for two weeks b/c of a gym switch and a class I was taking at my second job. But this last week I only got in once and had no excuse.
In addition I've been eating more and more quantity and eating sweet stuff I haven't touched for months. The weird thing is... after I eat the stuff, since I'm not used to it... I feel lousy! But I've continued to do it as I keep telling myself "just one more day."
Well the day has arrived. Unlike before when I would allow myself to continue to bury myself the buck stops here. I will be in the gym 5 days this week, no more caffeine (I've been creeping it back in the diet a bit,) increasing the water intake, no more eating after supper, and my portion sizes are going back down to an appropriate amount.
I was originally not going to run the mini b/c it was so close to when the baby is due, but I may decide to enroll if it provides the motivation to increase my fitness to a new level. Heck it would be worth the registration fee to maximize my fitness regardless of whether or not I run the race!

I hear you Brichard. Sometimes I am really good, and then for some reason I have a rough day or something and go back to eating junk food and not exercising.
Today I went for a long walk (all the way to my sister's) and did great all day, but just came home and had an ice-cream sandwich :\ , and I don't even like them
Brich- are you going through a sympathy pregnancy? LOL
I have been absolutely HORRIBLE this week. I have PMS, therefore I have gained a ton of water weight and Im craving carbs constantly. Half the time Im not hungry, but still want something to eat. Im actually grateful that dh is leaving tomorrow for two weeks. The meals are going to be small and my dh won't be around to say "lets hit DQ" LOL
We also found out we are getting a tax refund-actually its money that we had to prepay throughout the year because of capital gains. So dh says we are finally getting a treadmill!! HOORAY!
I say go for it.. Even if you don't run in it, the training for it will well pay off. Sign up by the 28th of feb. Its goes up to 40 march 1st. I don't know about you, but I will be glad when dw has this kid. Then and only then will the junk food go she said LOL.

Marla- I know what you mean! It is funny, when I made this massive weight loss before it totally changed my perspective. The good news is that now at least I know that I am eating just for the sake of eating. Before I read the Oprah book I just ate for the heck of it w/o giving it a second thought. It is really a food addiction and there is really no rationale behind it.
Amy/Co- LOL on the sympathy pregnancy! I did that with ds, but I lost my first ton of weight with dd and I have lost a ton of weight with this dd. Good thing it is a girl eh?
Jeff- Part of my problem is those blasted Girl Scout Cookies! Why can't they just deliver them during the holidays so we can battle all that junk food for just a couple of months. Those darn kids are a bunch of resolution busters!
I think I will sign up for the mini. My favorite self-help guys states that if you are frustrated with a goal, you probably don't have enough reasons to do well. After I got down so much I was already getting tons of compliments and lots of "don't lose any more weight!" Even though I clearly have some more I can take off.
The mini-marathon may be one of those "reasons" to push me to turn it up a notch!

The girls scouts are communists and pawns of Bin Ladin!!!! LOL
I don't think it's anything as "deep" as sabotage but more like we are HUMAN and have weaknesses. I choose not to get really discouraged by set backs or else I would kill myself!

ROFL!! I am actually dreading the arrival of ours!
For some reason, I think I am actually worse with my eating when I am trying to watch my intake. It becomes a mental battle for me - I all of a sudden think I am starving or have to have things I have decided to cut back on.

All in all I am pretty excited! I weighed today and despite my three weeks of anarchy to my diet and exercise I still only weighed 195. Since my low is 193, that isn't too bad.
But... 180 is my goal and I'm still 15 pounds away. I have a renewed enthusiasm and will probably sign up for the mini later this week!

I am going to sign up this evening...
I'm not sure why we do it....but I know when I fall into the eating habits of yesteryear... that I can stay there too long if I am not careful....never beat myself up about it...what is done is done....but I can learn hoefully from it....:)
Great about you Marathoners.....:thumb:
