Wanted to let you all know how great it is to be working with kids. Since my boys were in grade school (the oldest is over 30 now) I have been involved with the system. First, volunteer, then an aide in the kindergarten class. About 10 years ago, I joined the local school board. I could no longer work for pay ( conflict of interest) but I enjoyed the job so I continued as a volunteer. Because of a brain injury due to a high fever when I was two days old, I had epilepsy most of my life. When I turned 16 I got my license. About 6 months after that I had an accident caused by a siezure and my doctor said that I should not drive until my seizures were totally controlled. For about 30 years, I was having 3 or 4 seizures per month. Then I had brain surgery 5 years ago, haven't had any problems since then, got a degree in Early Childhood Education, am driving again and loving life. Sandy

Great story!! By the way-Love GRAFTON!!!!!! I used to live in the Killington area for a winter season. On my off days I would travel around to little villages I would see in postcards!

Grafton is a great place to live. The worst thing is the l-o-n-g winters. The preschool program I work in is a full year one. We have about a dozen 4-year-olds who stay all summer. Every spring we plan our gardens and decide what to grow. We have one small flower garden and one vegetable plot. Favorite flowers and vining morning glories and sunflowers. And we always grow pumpkins for halloween and cherry tomatoes for snacks. The kids really love this. They weed, water, plant and harvest "their" garden. Some of what we plant is from seeds they have started indoors and many are donated from our great local farm stands. Can't wait for summer! Sandy

Exactly how long are your winters? We are going on 6 months of snow on the ground here and it's driving me batty! I do have to admit I still love Alaska, it's the long winters I can do without. We have lived here almost 14 months now and have had snow on the ground for about 9 of those months! Tell me how to survive the long winters without going crazy! please...

BTW, welcome to the board! :)

I absolutely could not stand living in Alaska... not with those long winters. :biglaugh: I'm sure I'd go absolutely batty. :blackbat:
