We've been in our current home for three years and never used the fireplace. I checked into an insert that could use the existing chimney and it would cost at least 3,000 dollars.

Any one have experience with the gas logs. That option would be around $500-600 including the install and the gas line to the fireplace. For an extra $6/foot I could have a line ran to the deck for the grill.

Most everyone around here has them, and loves them. I want to get some for our fireplace, but I am actually leaning towards taking the whole damn thing out, and putting a ventless one in another location in my den.
Get the logs!

My grandma has gas logs and loves them.

It's definitely say to go for having the gas line run to the deck for the grill. My inlaws have a built in brick grill in thier backyard with a gas line. It's great not having to worry about running out of gas in the middle of grilling! :)
