Our 5yo is in tears (woke up crying which never happens) because of her legs hurting. DW said she mentioned they bothered her before she went to bed. I asked her where they hurt and she couldn't pinpoint it so I would say it might be a majority of her legs. Any thoughts?

Jeff, I'm sorry she's in pain. Is it possible that she slept in a funny position, and blocked circulation? (Although that would have worked itself out pretty quickly when she got up.) Could she have dislocated her hip? I know you guys aren't amateurs. I'm just throwing out some really easy common stuff. Both legs? Wish I could help. I know how hard it is to see the tears......

Has she maybe done more walking than normal or on a harder than normal surface? Maybe new shoes? If so maybe shin splints.

Maybe a growth spurt? I've heard of that with teenage boys before. They hit a growth spurt and hurt.

Maybe she can't really differentiate between her legs hurting and mild charley horses. Maybe she needs more potasium or water?

Just some ideas. I really have no clue but hope she's feeling better soon!

she is sleeping now. I had considered potassium and my dw had considered growing pains. Hadn't thought about water. I will pump her full of melon, bananas, and water.

Thanks for your thoughts...

I'm sorry your dd is in pain... It's always so hard to see them in any kind of pain. My first thought was of growing pains. I remember my dd's waking up and feeling those, and it wasn't too fun. Did you try giving her some children's tylenol? Sorry I don't have any solid answer's for you and I hope that she's doing much better by now.

She seems fine today. Said her legs feel fine. We applied heat, motrin, and a few prayers and she was asleep in no time and feeling well today.

Glad she's feeling better! Both of my kids have had the mysterious "growing pains". We just use a little motrin, and it usually takes care of it. Maybe you can re-measure her today, and show her that she's grown a bit, and that's why her legs hurt last night!;) Might take her mind off of it, and put her at ease. Plus she'll be able to tell her friends all about it!:D

Glad she's better. My ds would get horrible growing pains! He would wake up in the middle of the night just sobbing from the pain. It's weird cause he wasn't growing at a fast rate, and now that he is, he doesn't get them any more.

Sounds like growing pains to me. Dd used to get them badly, they are lessening now. Massage always helped her, with a cooling lotion.

My dd does the same thing! Growing pains! Better get to the store and buy some new clothes. The bones grow so fast the ligaments don't keep up and ouchy, it hurts. Whenever dd has them we give her motrin, a hot bath, and daddy gives her leg rubs with lotion. They usually last a day or two and she can't walk on her legs during the height of pain.

Have you asked your pedi about it hurting when she walks? When my ds was having them so badly, ours said that it would only concern him if he had pain walking.

My dd, she's now 8, has had off and on growing pains since she was 2 years old. She's seen several doctors because of them over the years just to make sure that's waht they actually were. She's had blood work done to see if it was a calicum deficency or some other mineral or vitiman. But, they are just growing pains. One dr show her some stretching excersizes to to to ease them, but I don't know if they actually work. We just give her tylenol and they go away. I'm hoping that's all it was for our dd too, just growing pains. I just hope they don't go on as long as my dd's have. At least now my dd doesn't really cry about the pain, she just says, "my leg hurts, can I have some tylenol?"
