When you were little (or even now) did you have a nickname? If so... what was it? Was their a special reason why you were given this nickname? Also... have you given your children nicknames and if so... what are they and again, why?
When I was REALLY little (2) I always remember being called "little funny bunny" because when I cried my nose turned pink and wiggled like a bunny. Somewhere along the line I lost that name and have been calleld "Dee Dee" ever since. My oldest dd acquired her nickname from my youngest dd... She couldn't say Dawn and it always came out Doy... so she's carried that with her on and off throughout the years. Kristina has always been Cricket or now that she's older just plain Kristi. When my youngest was born and I had the kids to the park I ran into this lady who's name was Michelle also... and she told me to NEVER EVER call my dd "Shelly Bean" cause that's what she was called when she was little and she hated it. LOL Well, guess what we called her? That was her first nickname. Somehow it got shortened to "Beano"... and it's pretty much been that from then on. Of course now that she's older she doesn't want any of her friends to know what her nickname is... but unfortunately a few kids from school who know her from day care will tell... LOL What about you?

I love nicknames! I usually give them to people unintentionally. My son is A.J. and I call him Agie wagie pumpkin pagie, Agerinski, JJ (what he called himself for a while), Punkie, Monkey and Bear, among many others! ;) My dog's name is Abbey and I call her Aborigine, Babby, Boo, Berteese, Pookie (among others). I also have a nick name for my sister, brother, cousins and close friends, too. Come to think of it...I don't call many people by their given name! LOL!

Sure...my oldest ds (7) has always been my "Honey Bunny", and my other ds (almost 5) has always been my "Peanut". Funny, but my dh doesn't use those names...but I do frequently. They laugh if I mix them up...and are always comforted when I use the nickname. Of course, my 7 yr old has given me STRICT orders NEVER to call him "Honey Bunny" in school! LOL I teach at the same school he attends, and he was in my class last year! It was tempting!!!! Hee Hee

Okay, can't believe I would even post this, but dh started jokingly calling me Schmoopy after a Seinfeld episode and of course that name of all names seems to be the one we call each other!!! ROFL! My dad calls me "Karlakins". We have a ton of nicknames for the boys - Booga, Scooby, Peanut, Little Nugget... I just asked ds what I call him and he said, "Booga, Sweetie, Honey". Dh calls my niece Smiley Kiley. :)
Mickey - we share a few nicknames - I also call oldest ds "Boo" and youngest ds "punkie"! :)

When I was a couple of weeks old, a neighbor and good friend of my grandparents came to visit and brought a BIG bag of jellybeans. Well, he'd pick out the black ones and rub them on my gums, turning my whole mouth black and driving my mom crazy thinking I would swallow it. From then on I was known as "Jellybean" to them. At Christmas each year, we get a card from them to "The Jellybeans".
The nickname that has stuck with my son so far is "Poot". When we first started calling him that, we had no idea that some people use that word for "breaking wind". We always thought of it as a sound word, like from the Bloom County comic. He was learning to walk, and when he would fall on his butt, it made a "poot" sound. Thus the name...

My dh and I also use schmoopy!! Snuggle buggle, sugar bear. I never liked "nick names" as far as using another name other than an endearing one like "honey, sweetie" and such. I always disliked never knowing if I should be Angela or Angie. I like names like Mark or Brian, names without an alternative. I named my daughter Andrea thinking that couldn't be messed with and now I am constantly battling over where the "inflection" is. I also learned from a mom named Andrea that she got called Andy in school. What is wrong with me that this is so bothersome anyway?? Of course, when I ask my son what his sister's name is he says "Sissy." LOL

When I first met my MIL she totally REFUSED to call me (or anybody) by their nicknames... She said that she didn't believe in them because that wasn't their "given name" and that nobody should ever be called anything BUT, their "given name". Well, after we started having kids and calling them by their nicknames all the time... she actually started calling them by their nicks. It took a long time though. :)
I don't have a nickname except here with my pretend friends. I used to be called "baby Kathie" because I had an older cousin already named Kathy. I hated the baby part. My aunt is the only one who still calls be that.
Call ds Boo. My husband's friends before we got married all had nicknames. His best friend's wife everyone calls "manure"????? I thought I could do without one. lol.
Dh is called "penj". Right after we got married one of his friends called and asked for penj, I thought they had the wrong number.
I call my baby sister bug, and my youngest cousin is Tina bug.
I've got a little girl in my class who is a hoot. She called me "chickie" once when she was upset with me (you'd have to know the whole history with this child to appreciate this) so when I'm upset with her, I'll call her "chickie" and she knows to change her attitude and the class does not know she's been reprimanded. We just had P/T conferences last week and this girls mother and I shared stories about this child and we were both in tears we laughed so hard. Like the day she told me her dad's hooker was going to have a baby. Hooker is a dog they got just to breed puppies.
I call Dh Gee, which is silly cuz his name is Guy....or chewy form starwars....LOL...he calls me Rah Rah, yes like a cheerleader....my kids are Maa maa for maddie-or dollface, adn Chase is chaseman, or hootie.....my Nephews and Nieces call me Aunt Nae Nae....and my mother always called me Chickabitty, sometimes my Godmother will say it so I can hear it said again...funny how you can miss something that was silly when you were a kid...great question thanks for reminding me of how fun nick names are....
Hey Renee, I have a friend whose name is Renee too and I ALWAYS call her Nae Nae! LOL
I used to nickname everyone I met. When I lived in Cape Cod, I had names for my favorite bartenders-Rowdy Roddy Piper and Squidley. Im horrible at memorizing people's real names, so when I nicknamed them, I remember them for life. LOL
Dd is Princess Sugar Plum or Critter Jane, ds is Bodie and dh is.... well usually some derogatory word of the moment. ROFL! Actually, I used to call him Dim and he hated that. I also use to call my Dad "Pooper" because it was easier to say than Pop. Ok-I was 21 yrs old at the time, but he also hated it especially since he is a PHd and I used to say it at his office allt he time. LOL
Ahhh... Fond memories!
I've had a few nicknames growing up, but one that has stuck is Beggy. It started off as Beggarly, then moved to Beggy and sometimes still MsBeg.
I called ds when he was a baby "Honey Baby Bunches", but now it's just "Baby"...which I think he starting to outgrow as he's now 10!

When I was a kid my dad called me Bink because I was in love with my pacifier which we called a binkie in our house.
I have 2 boys and we call the older one Cheeks because he has really big cheeks and the other one Boons because that's what the older one called him when he was a baby and we don't know why!

My dh's whole family uses nicknames. His nickname (from way..way...back) has been "Skeet". At our wedding, I remember getting checks written out to Skeet and Mary. Try cashing those at the bank! LOL His brother was (is) "Kit", his sister is "Posie", and his mom is "Punk". Somehow, it just feels wierd to call your mil "Punk". But no one calls her Dolores...so "Punk" it is! (Although I usually get away with calling her "Grandma"...phew...thanks kids!!
i have always been called missymoo, as well as pumpkin, pumpykin, and kezzabell.....i hated that one.
i have a lil cousin who is molly, so we call her mollymoo, cyclone moo, and also we just call her "the moo"

When I was about 3 or 4 my father started calling me his 'pooky bear'. Not sure why but likely had something to do with me talking about nothing but bears all the time.
He's the only one who could get away with calling me it though, it was like a special bond between the two of us. Anyone else who would try it would get yelled at.
What can I say. I was 'Daddy's Girl' all the way. No matter what happened it was always ok as long as I had 'Daddy'
