I'm so sick of buying crappy candles and was wondering if anyone knew of some awesome ones that burn well. Thanks!

I love Yankee Candle's. We have stores here by that name. I also love the candles from an in home sales company...Partylite. Both burn clean and have a wonderful smell. In my fireplace I burn just plain old Walmart candles because I have 10 even sized ones and that can get expensive. 3x5 piller candle at Walmart is $1.47.

I looked up the Yankee Candle Company online and found some stores in my town that carry them! Thanks for the suggestion!

I have used Partylite (when I lived back East and went to many candle parties)...I'll see if there's a way to order those online.

Thank you, again!

I love Yankee candles. They are my favorite especially the home sweet home fragrance, and the vineyard fragrance.

I love the Partylite candles too. My favorite Yankee is the sugar cookie. :0) If you decide you want to order Partylite and can't find anyone in your area (or online ordering isn't available) my sil is a rep and I could hook you up with her.

Besides Yankee candles (which are on the expensive side), I also like Home Interiors Candles. Look on E-bay for them, but don't pay more than $7.50 (their retail price). The baked apple pie is awesome!!! Vanilla comes in second.

I like Home sweet Home Yankee candles too! My all time favorite is Storm Watch-it reminds me of the East Coast.

Pam-you must have a stomach made of steel! LOL I smelled sugar cookie once and it smelled GREAT, but just like any other sugary thing it gets sickening to me after awhile. LOL

I think the sugar cookie one sounds yummy! I try to avoid smells that make me hungry, though! ;) LOL! My cousin uses vanilla a lot and her house smells so good!

Thanks for offering to get me in touch with your sil, Pam...I'll give the Yankee ones a try first. No one here in Podunk has ever heard of Partylite, so I'll probably get in touch with you if I decide to buy some. Thanks!

What does home sweet home smell like? I usually go for floral scents and I normally can't stand rose-scented things, but Bare Essentials has a wonderful tea rose oil that I put in a pot pourri burner and it smells so good--reminds me of an old English cottage.

The smell of these candles would make me terribly hungry... LOL I got a candle once, I can't remember what kind it was, and there was a warning on it saying that it was not for human consumption. LOL Thought that was kind of funny!

I think I have a wooden nose, lol! It has to be really strong for me to even smell it. In fact I usually can't smell it at all once it's been burning ten minutes or so. My sis gave me a chocolate scented candle one time and I was seriously bummed that it didn't smell very strong once it was burning. I was hoping for a olfactory chocolate fix! :0P

HAHAHAHAHA! I used to make those candles, girls! I worked for Village Candle back when it was just a handful of us in the old factory out in Yarmouth! I came home every day smelling like all of the above, and believe me, combined, they aren't so great. They do charge far too much for them, though. I make my own, now. Not for sale, just for the house and for friends. If you want to make them yourself, all you really need to make them burn longer and better is the right combination of stearic, wax, and (I use) beeswax. The realy trick is in getting the scent right. Village Candle does that part very well.

I love the Yankee Candles as well. Use potporri pots at school. I remember one little girl coming in from recess and asking me how I kept the room smelling like Kool-Aid (I was simmering Mayberry at the time).

I worked for Village Candle back when Windling could you share a simple recipe? I want to make candles in tea cups to go with the journal jars and journals I'm doing for Christmas.

I thought WBC sounded familiar! Thanks for pointing that out - I do have some of those! :)

This is getting off the thread, but one lady posted about making candles in teacups (which I think would be really pretty) to give as gifts along with journal jars. What is a journal jar?

I think it was originally Angie R who I saw post about them. I don't remember which thread it was in, but I copied what she wrote in one of her posts so I can make one for my mom:

"Journal Jar
RECIPE FOR MY LIFE HISTORY
Combine a generous slice of your life history, a dash of nostalga, several cups of facts and feelings and 104 deliciously interesting questions. Draw one slip of paper. Take a few minutes to enjoy the memories. Paste or write the question at the top of a blank page. Fill in your answer. Don't worry about your handwriting or spelling - just tell your story. This product was prepared to preserve your life as a message. Enjoy the scrumptious, home-made memories that celebrate something very important - YOU!

This is what I typed up for the outside of the Jar. I used a "plastic" jar I bought at Walmart. You can use a canning jar or maybe an empty "Yankee Candle" jar with the stopper lid."

Basically you just type up questions, put them in a jar, and give it to the person along with a journal. I hope to get one ready for my mom for Mother's Day. :)

Well, I rarely use a recipe...I pretty much cut up chunks and throw them into a pot! I wouldn't recommend candles in mugs...the mug is too deep for the candle after it has burned a while. Teacups are great, especially the old ones with the wide mouths. Pretty much a tablespoon of stearic, a pound of parafin, a broken crayon for color, and a handful of grated beeswax for the consistency and scent. After you have melted it all and taken it off the heat, add your scent; you can buy some nice ones at any craft store, use soap scent or even essential oils. Whatever you like the smell of. The trick with the wick is to weight it at the bottom to keep it from moving around too much...there are wick clips you can buy, or you can use a bit of that sticky stuff for posters to stick it to the bottom of the cup. Pull it fairly straight and tie it at the right height to a pencil or chopstick to hang it over the cup as the wax cools. Jelly jars make good holders, too. The small, quilted ones are best, they can take the heat and are shallow enouhg that the flame won't actually harm the glass. My advice: EXPERIMENT! Whatever you think might work, try it! The worst you will have is a bunch of multicolored candles you can cut into chunks, drop in a holder and pour clear wax over. Voila! A fruitcake candle. Remember, you can always reuse something you don't like the first time around.

Thank you for the recipe. I am going to try and make candles for Christmas and other presents now. I don't think that I'll do the journal jars though. I can't see anyone in my family actually keeping up with them. LOL!

I just recently started putting candles in my fireplace. My dd was telling me that they now have tierd stands that fit right into the fireplace FOR candles, so I thought I'd check those out to see how much they are and how they look. It really helps dress up a normally dull looking fireplace.

I bought mine at a store named Kirklins in a mall. It holds ten candles and cost $29.95. I have seen them in magazines for over $100! People always comment on my fireplace and the burning candles do put some heat out. I like them alot better than burning logs!

A friend of mine has one, she loves it. It is very prety with the candles burning and the lights out.

This past Christmas I made all of my female friends and relatives gift baskets with homemade candles, bath gel, bubble bath, lip balm, and crocheted bath puffs. I also added some chocolate spoons my son had made, and some individual teas. I made everything but the tea...even the baskets!

Well aren't you the crafty one!! The baskets sound beautiful and lots of fun!

They sound great!! If we all give your our addresses do we, your new friends at IB, get them for Christmas this year, too? ;)

My sister found one at HOME PLACE for $32.00... so I think I'm going to get one this weekend. I've already got TONS of candles so I don't think I'll need any more of those. LOL (I always have candles burning) She thought they might go on sale this weekend too... so maybe I can save some money. :)
