View Full Version : Medical Bill Gripe....
well, I just wanted to tell everyone that it pays to keep good records of your medical bills....man, I got a bill last week for more than $297.00, money I don't have to throw at a bill dated 10/22/01 hello....its for my removal of the stiches in my neck.....and some other office visit....I thought it was odd...so I have been on the phone most of the morning with my doctors office, the billing dept....so friendly........anyway...she finally told me that the numbers on our account were messed up...she will re submitt these and get back to me....so to disregard that bill......THANK you....sheese...they think your made of money....
just a warning....:)
Isn't it awful??? I just got an Explanation of Benefits from my insurance company saying that they're not going to cover an after hours (after 5:00pm) emergency room visit because my GP didn't authorize it! 8o Helllloooo??? When did they make up that rule? ?( Guess I should be getting off my duff here and calling them.
Glad you got it straightened out!
don't even get me started on insurance companies...

I hear ya on that too Jeff...but this is the doctors office...she hadn't even submitted some of these to my insurance co.....silly rabbit....she should have known better....;)
Insurance companies are a piece of work! LOL They change all the time with their policies.
Since I work at a dentist office :), I have run into your problem Renee a few times. You would be amazed how one off number can screw up your account. Mistakes are always going to happen-I haven't seen an iron clad procedure to date that is mistake free. Its a good thing you were paying attention and able to find the root of the problem. There have been many times I have called different offices with their mistake and they were always straightened out promptly. As long as they fix them, then I am pretty laid back about it all. :)

yes but when ins companies put paperwork and policy in place where multiple medical office staff must be hired solely for filing purposes and code intrepretation I think something needs to change.
oh Amy your so right...I hate when I get so angry:{ about silly things like an error....just that I don't have any extra cash these days and it just scared me actually....I should take a look at the big picture and realize that people are human and make misteaks...thanks for the reminder of that. :)

A year or so ago my sister had her stomach stapeling surgery. Well... she had this HUGE bill to pay and still had like... 3,500.00 left to pay. She's been paying something like $150.00 or so a month or whatever she can afford. Well anyway... she came home from work the other night to find a message on her answering machine telling her that she no longer has to pay anything more, that her insurance company paid off the rest for her. 8o No reason/explanatioin... just paid in full. LOL Needless to say... I don't think she'd have anything too much bad to say about insurance companies right now but... I know that's not the norm. LOL Just thought I'd let you know that every once in a while... they CAN be good. :)

I WORK at an insurance company and can't get my claims paid right/decent customer service half the time... so I feel the pain!!! All I can say is fight them. If you get a CSR that isn't trying to help in the least, hang up, call back and you'll more than likely get a different CSR who may know more/be more willing to help.
PamE - you definitely need to fight with them about your issue. Ask them to send you a copy of the plan language where it states after hours ER visits aren't covered by your plan. If you stick to your guns and require they send you something in writing, chances are, they'll realize the err of their ways!!
BUT, some plan language states that you have to notify your PCP within 48 hours of an ER visit (don't ask me why), so be prepared if they tell you that. Look over any plan info you may have and be prepared with a quick answer. Good luck!
