Mom always gave us warm salt water to gargle - there's also Chloroseptic spray - I always missed my throat and numbed my tongue instead! lol

I used to gargle with warm salt water too, and drink lots of tea.

I hope he feels better soon.

Warm some milk and honey... This is something my kids never complained about drinking and it usually always helped... Good luck, I hope he starts feeing better real soon.

My doctor said to do the warm salt water gargyle. And she said to suck on candies. She recommended fisherman's Wharf throat lozengers which I hated. I prefer the celestial seasonings throat lozengers. And inbetween those I'd suck on any hard candy. My doctor also said to avoid using the Chloresiptic sprays and other medicines. She said they prolong the sore throat in most cases. I think the main point was that some pain stops you from further stressing the throat. If it was my child and not me with the sore throat I'd probably use the spray anyways. Another thing she said to avoid was milk. not sure about the theory behind that one. She said to drink warm tea. I asked about warm cider and hot chocolate. She said cider would be fine but make sure the hot chocolate mix didn't have milk byproducts. I bought the cider box mixes.

Right now I have some crud type cold hanging on in my chest. Lots of coughing up gook but no other problems. The first couple of days I was hacking so hard I nearly lost my voice. I started the warm salt water gargyles and used the celesitial seasonings lozengers. I bought some Tang and lemonade mix intending to make that *Russian Tea* mix. My throat healed up before I could get around to it though. I bet that would really appeal to kids.

I forgot to add that as a kid I would mix honey with lemon juice. Honey has healing and soothing properties. Not sure why it was mixed with lemon juice. Probably to counteract the sweetness with some tart and to make it *more watery* so it was easier to swallow.
