View Full Version : David/Pam...I need your help please!!!
I emailed you (not sure I have the right email for David) and Pam's IB mail came back saying no such addy....anyway
I am getting all sorts of weird emails that don't open or saying that I have infected them with a virus from people I don't know to people I don't know. Ryleigh just posted that she got one with my name in the title. I have gotten some saying they are from Kat and Karla too. The only person who is in my address book is Karla.
I have run a virus scan several times, and I am clean. None of these prompt my virus protection to go off (I was getting some in my regular email that did)
What is going on? Do I need to close that account and start a new one?

It appears that someone you know is probably infected with the Klez virus.
This virus is tricky in that it 'spoofs' the 'from' field of an email. This is a problem because people will think that you are sending them a virus when actually your system is clean.
Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it. Starting a new account wouldn't hurt, but you may just need to wait it out.
Make sure your virus scanning is up to date!

People you don't even have in your address book are receiving e-mails from you??? 8o How does it get their e-mail addresses then??? Wow... that really is strange. Hope you can find some way of getting rid of whatever it is that you have. :)
Diane...
so, is it someone who has my IB addy in their address book?
Cause I don't have any of the people who sent stuff to me in mine except for Karla.
Hey, ya'll double check your puters and make sure you are safe! Does the name jwburns ring a bell to anyone? I got lots of AOL ones too.
Thanks for responding David, I guess I will see what happens. What is interesting is that these in IB didn't set off my McAfee, just showed an invalid web addy..does that mean that McAfee didn't catch it or the virus wasn't in them? Is my IB mail as protected as my regular account?

I have done every check in the world, and I don't have anything.
I think someone who has ME in their address book has the virus. Someone who has Kat's, Karla's, Ryleigh's, somebody names jwburns, and a bunch of AOL people. Cause I got mail from all sorts of people, some I knew and some I didn't.

If your virus defnitions are up to date and you run the scan and it doesn't find anything, then I would bet you're clean.
I'm getting emails from people angry at me for sending them an email when it's not me. This is a frustrating virus for that reason.
David, I don't really think it's a virus that is messing up my IB account cause McAfee would catch it, right? Plus, there isn't any attachement with it, and it's a bad web site...this has actually been going on for about a week before the worm tried to hit my main addy book.

Most virus cleaners strip out the attachment but still send the email on it's merry way. Some companies have expensive software that blocks the email completely, but most of them just strip out the attachment.
So you'll continue to receive emails, most likely, if anyone that has you in their address book is infected. At least until they get cleaned.
I'm still receiving a lot of the emails associated with the virus, but the attachment is nowhere to be found. Just the remnants of the virus.

I don't know who that is, but I had one from that person in my IB e-mail too. Do you think that maybe someone is doing this to those of us that have our IB e-mail addresses in our signitures? I too was puzzled when I received an e-mail from that person, but I just deleted it, and now I am glad that I did.
