View Full Version : at what age did your kids start taking Crayons and pencil to thier rooms?
ds has a box of crayons and pencils in his desk...dd has been bugging me to let her have writing utencils in her room too....she has a table but no desk...but she can use it as a desk....I am thinking....ok its time....no one has written on any walls in the last year or so with crayons....just curious to know what kind of ages your kids were.....

I'd let her have them as long as she hasn't written/colored on the walls. I'd let her know though that if she ever does write on anything besides paper... they will be taken away from her and she won't be able to use them again unless it's at the kitchen table. :) It doesn't hurt to give her a chance. :)

When dd wrote on our walls, it wasn't when she had writing utensils in her room - she found a pencil and went to town practicing the first letter of her first name - on the stairwell. ;) I can laugh at it now!
I'd give her a chance - if dd had somthing more readily available to her and a place to get that writing urge out, she may not have written on our walls.... who knows??
thanks ladies....its been working out great....both kids are writing little letters to one another....some ledgable some not so... dd is coloring lots more...now that these things are more available to her in her room.....;)
Gosh I guess as soon as they could hold them in their little hands. They've always had a desk in their rooms and ample writing supplies and paper even scissors. I don't ever remember either of them writing on walls. I am still floored by the number of kids I get each year who have never had any of those things till they got their school supplies.

I was surprised when I first started dc and I had parents asking me not to give their kids things like this... 8o I always made sure they sat at a table or desk, and I never allowed them to run around the house with them. I've gone to some relatives and friends houses and have seen color crayons and markers thrown throughout... 8o and I would never allow that. Also... some kids like to chew/eat or peel the paper off from the crayons... and when I see them doing that I'll usually take them away until they can show me they won't do it anymore. Ugh... :)
