View Full Version : kids and your refridgerator ....
do your kids have free range in your fridge? can they take out whatever they want when ever they want? we have never had a "rule" that they couldn't but they only seem to go after drinks...they always ask about actual food....just being nosey....

We sound like you guys. I've tried encouraging them to take fruits & veggies (which they love) but except for after school they just forget about snacking. They usually eat a PB&J after school unless they forgot to pack the stuff away the previous day. You forget to pack something away it's off limits the next day. That applies to jucie, Tang, and the cups they drink out off. If they forget the juice cup out then they have to drink water the next day.

If dd eats between meals, she ususally knows what she wants and will ask for it - I may get it, or if it's something she can handle, she'll get it with my permission.
They usually ask first, but there isn't anything in the fridge they can't eat unless it's just right before dinner. They also get it themselves.

When my girls were younger it was the same as Ann's... they asked otherwise there wasn't anything in the fridge they couldn't eat... unless it was too close to dinner. They were always able to get what they wanted themselves.... so I usually never had to get it for them. :)

When dds were little, they always asked. Now I have the menu for the week posted on the refrigerator, so they know what I'm planning for dinners. They are pretty good, but they're ALWAYS hungry!! It's been years since I wasted my breath telling them they'd spoil their dinner. LOL

:biglaugh: Things definitely change once they get older. LOL My kids are always digging in the refridgerator looking for something to eat... and even though the refridgerator is full of all kinds of good things to eat, they are always complaining because we've got NOTHING! 8o That reminds me that I'd better go do some grocery shopping tonight. :)

My dks always ask for something before they just get it- everything except for water to drink. They get that when ever they want to.

My kids help themselves to whatever they want. They don't usually spend a lot of time in the fridge (only for juice, milk or yoghurt), but are more interested in the pantry :licklips:

We're not big snackers....so I guess my kids aren't accustomed to helping themselves to items in the fridge. If it's not a meal, they typically drink water. They always ask before they get something. We do have a "treat" drawer....which is a drawer where we put our "treats"/desserts to those of you who consider it that. The kids are allowed to pick a treat after dinner. (Might be fruit snacks...Easter Candy...sugarfree gum...pudding cups...etc).
Our kids don't usually snack either. I've found if they snack at all they don't eat anything for the next meal. :( So they usually just go in the fridge for their water bottles.
Mine is a human stomach. He has a light breakfast and lunch, but he eats from the time he gets home from school, through dinner, til he goes to bed. That's why I can't keep him in pants that fit. Just bought him a pair of 30 x 32's for a band concert Thurs. He said, "Mom I want alot of pants". I said, "No way, you'll grow out of them in 2 weeks". Wish I had his metabolism! If I ate like he does, I'd be a big as a house.

The refridgerator hasn't been a problem for us yet. She does raid the pantry though. I afraid that I am not being as tough with her snacking time and what she eats. That is usually my posting time here. LOLOL.
I like Linda/Wa Idea of packing the snack for tomorrow.
Might give that a try one of these days!!!

It seems like guy's can eat a lot more than women without gaining a pound. 8o LOL My dh is constantly snacking and NEVER gains a pound... he makes me sick!!! :biglaugh: I wish I could eat half of what he eats and not gain. It seems like sometimes all I have to do is look at it and I gain. :)
