View Full Version : care to share your tried and true discipline actions?
I have finally found something that actually works with my ds.....simply taking away his privliges for Nick Game shows....YIKES...I know its sounds wierd...but we have been having less dicipline problems with him since I have just remained calm and said....Hey....I don't like your behavior....STOP....thats my warning....only one....he hasn't been acting up hardly at all...
dd on the other hand...I haven't found her ackiles heel yet
anyone care to share what works for you?

Usually I take privilages away. Taking away the use of their bikes or scooters is a big one, and since we just got a trampoline that is a major one.
Another method I use is called 1 2 3 magic.....
Instead of yelling at a bad behaviour or something they did that they know they shouldn't do.. I say "thats one" (and thats all I say) if the behavior is repeated I say "thats two" and if happens again I say "thats three" on three they get sent to their room or to a time out place to "think" usually put a time limit on it about 2 minutes per age so my 4 year old gets about 6 minutes or longer if needed. My 7 year old 14 min......
When I first started it took a few times and got to three lots of times, but now I usually only get to 1 or 2...

I'm a 1-2-3 Magic person, too! It works for me both at home, and in my kindergarten classrooms.
Probably my best discipline "tactic" is that I am VERY consistent! If I say it, I mean it. If I say that you will be going to bed early if you do something....I mean it, and my kids know it. I'm not a yeller....and my consistency helps keep our discipline at a calm level.
My kids know I mean what I say. I don't give idle threats and very rarely over react. What I says goes. If I say no, that's it, you can't change my mind.
thanks for sharing....
I agree that consistency and Not loosing your cool helps alot....:)
