I have never had a respiratory problem in my life (besides the occasional cold). This winter, thanks to our ND cold and wind, I had viral bronchitis for about 14 weeks. I was on a long and short acting inhaler. Thought I was over it. Then about 3 weeks later, I start coughing again, and last Sat night had to go to the ER because I was having trouble breathing, tight chest, wheezing. I have never had this before, so didn't know if it would go away, or get worse.

Now they are working me up for asthma vs reactive airway (post bronchitis).

Anyone else have a similar, adult onset problem? I didn't realize this could happen later in life if you hadn't had problems earlier. :(

I don't know if this is similar, but in my late 20's I developed what my Dr called pre-asthma due to a mold allergy. (I had from a dry to a wet climate.) I had to use to types of inhailers off and on for 3 or 4 years. It cleared up about 5 years ago and I haven't had problems since. I had never had any respitory problems before either.

I had an experience several years ago where I just couldn't breathe without an inhaler. Turns out I had become allergic to my cats which I had had for 7 years. I had to get rid of them and could breathe again. Just can't go to my moms for any length of time. She also has 3 cats.

So I know you can develop adult onset ailments. Hope you get an answer.
