View Full Version : registering for school in another state...
well, I talked with the school my dks will attend...and dh is going to get the info and paperwork, so we can register them now...but looks like they are all full up for Kindergarden.....dd will be on a waiting/bussing list...but because she will have a sibling in the school...(they have room for 2nd graders).....she might have a better chance at staying at that school with him...since they are year round and all.....keep those fingers crossed....
what a pain ....good news is that they are opening a NEW elementary school next year because there are so many young children in the area....yikes...
There is no room for her in PUBLIC school???? uh..isn't that against the law? It is here.

I've never heard of anything so rediculous!!! If it's a public school... they HAVE to have room for her and accept her whether they do or not. 8o I've NEVER heard of a public school being able to turn down a student. I'd call and ask more questions... something just isn't right. :)

they would have to accept her, but could bus her to a different elementary school in the district....not uncommon when the school is FULL...I don't anticipate a problem, I talked with the District office and they assured me that she will attend Kindergarden....so....
Interesting. Here, the home school has to make room for you even if it means shuffling classes and hiring another teacher.

I think that is why they have the two new school opening next fall....too many children in the area....:) I was shocked too...I am just praying that since her brother will be there and that they are on the Year round schedual...they will keep them in the same school....

RCT - I heard of the same thing when we lived in CA. The way it was explained to me those living in that schools boundries with siblings moved to the top of the list. Next those within the boundries without siblings. And finally those wanting to go to that school within ditrict but in another school's boundries.
I think within each group they also go by registration date. So that should help you since you are doing it now.
Here in WA they just keep changing the school boarders. DS has kids in his class that were in a different school last year. Moving boarders put them in this school this year. Next year they will be back to the first school.
My mom told me that in my hometown there is a big stink over HS school boundries. Where I lived we bussed into school about 1/2 hour. Now they still bus them to that school but then they put them on another bus and haul them all the way to the other side of town. I've heard some kids are spending over 1 hour being bussed one way. Imagine points A, B and C all in a straight line. Kids living at point A are bussed to the HS at B, switch busses at their old school, then continue on to another school on another bus.
