OK how do you know what do price something...I think dh prices too high...I probably price to low....so how do you come up with the price for something your selling?

we are planning to yard sale / Barn Sale next weekend....I just thought I would get a little list going of what the prices would be for the furniture and bigger items....

TIA:D

I can't help with prices, but I just read in a magazine about garage sales. The key is to get rid of stuff, not to get rich. I thought that was perfect sentence. LOL You want to move the stuff out of your house, not haul it back in. I guess I would price on the low side and be ready to bargain. :)

Pricing depends on whether you're trying to make money, or just get rid of something! LOL I sold an old treadmill for $10 at my last yard sale...it still worked, but we didn't use it. I didn't want it in the basement anymore. I always price things in increments of 25 cents. And I try to be realistic....I always ask myself, "If this doesn't sell.....do I want to bring it back into the house/basement, etc?" If the answer is "no"....the price is usually low!!!

"The key is to get rid of stuff, not to get rich. " I copied that and put it on our Fridg....so DH could see it....

thanks...

I say we stick to the low side so people will buy it...we are trying to rid ourselfs of stuff....most things that don't sell will get sent to the Salvation Army....I think so we might as well sell it to someone for a minimal cost....:)

"If this doesn't sell.....do I want to bring it back into the house/basement, etc?" thats how I feel...so I want dh to know its going no matter HOW....

I tend to sell everything for $1!!! LOL

I was told 10% of value, so if something would cost $1 new, you would sell it for a dime.

I would say 10% of the items orignal cost..So if it were $100 then try sell it for $10 etc.....or just use your judgement. I usually think to myself "what would I pay for this if I wanted it at a yard sale?"

My dh likes to give everything away (really cheap), and I like to price things moderately and then work with the people when they want to bargain (it's my retail experience....my dad used to have a clothing store for years).

Good luck and have fun :)

I'm with Rhonda, I try to imagine what I'd be willing to pay for the item. Also, I price a tad more than I expect to get to leave room for bargaining... makes the buyer feel like he/she has the upper hand... and if they can go away paying less than something was marked, they've gotten a deal. (gee, was I thinking out loud again! )
