View Full Version : Quetions for Homeschoolers
I am really curious as to what your schedule is like when "school" is in session. How do you run your day with the kids being home all day and when do you teach?
I ask this because I have been home with the dk's for a month since school has been out and are crazy with boredom! LOL How do you find "your" time to be by yourself when they are home all day?
I think y'all are very close to saints!
For us it really varies. For me, if I don't get chores and housework done first it just doesn't get done. So we all attack the house and get as much done as we can, then we take a little break. Schoolwork only takes a few hours a day so a lot of times we're done by noon, with the afternoon free. It helps that we hs year-round. It gives me the flexibility that I need to take a day off here and there, or to stop and focus on problem areas (either in curriculum or behavior). My time is usually in the afternoon when the kids are out playing or doing their thing. We seem to avoid the boredom factor by giving enough chores and schoolwork to do to keep them from complaining about any free time!

Similar to Pam here. Try to do the more formal HS in the morning and year round as well. Always talking about stuff and learning, though.
We've only done Kindergarten so far and my main focus has been to instill the fun of learning, so it's been pretty flexible--leap pad, brain quest cards, educational cd roms, lots of reading, some workbooks, games, computer printouts, piano, etc. HS support/play group weekly and outings/field trips in the afternoons. Moving into a formal HS curriculum for first grade, so that will change things a bit, but still plan to focus on mornings for that part of home schooling.
Visiting here has been my free time in the past, but since I don't work as much from home anymore, some days I don't even go online. I do plan to have a sitter come once a week for a couple of hours while I go for a pedicure or shopping alone. It's been very difficult not having that and I do need it.

MM! We school all year long as well. Six weeks on, one week off. Works for us. We're normally done by noon as well with afternoons for beach, homeschool meetings, field trips and errands. With legos, computer games, board games, books, and the Discovery Channel, there is always something to do that's fun and exciting.
I just pick-up the CD ROM Where in the US is Carmen Sandiego for $5 at a bookfair and the boys are having a blast learning about the USA. They're begging to be able to play.
I get my time everyday when I hit the gym, my HH stays with the boys when I need time to myself and I make it a priority.
Why not start a nature journal or read a book together and write a book report or an oral presentation. You could use the pc and get some extra studying in or brush up on those study skills. How about have fun playing with science. http://scifun.chem.wisc.edu/HomeExpts/HOMEEXPTS.HTML

Have fun.

Wow!! I give you all credit. Part of my problem is that I feel I never get enough "me" time and spend half my day trying to get a block of an hour to myself. My dd will NOT play with any toy or cd game on her own. She bores easily and it very social oriented. I'm the opposite. I like to be by myself to re-generate. So the more she wants constant interaction, the more I want to lock myself in my room. LOL Its just never ending and I think we would both kill each other if she stayed home with me all the time. LOL
