After my nephews got to be about 10 years old I started giving them cash. I hated not getting something for them, but found they loved it!
Money or Best Buy gc!!!!!!!!!
my ds is 12 and this is what I give ALL of his friends and have for the past few years.

It's funny I never even thought of money...That's always an option...Then he can get what he wants. I was thinking some tickets to the movies or something?

Movie tickets are a good idea, too. For my nephew who is 13, if I don't have a specific idea for a gift I know he wants I give him $$ or a gift certificate. If I do it at Target he likes being able to put it towards a Nintendo game or something like that. Good luck! :)

I'd go with money or a gift certificate. And for future reference, www.amazon.com allows people to make a wish list, then gift givers can log on and get ideas, then get the loot cheaper at a local store! I'm telling my family they need to do it before Christmas so they get what they want. I used to think cash or gift certificates meant either the person didn't want to take the time to get the right gift, or didn't care. But personally, I would much rather get cash or a gift cert. I'm picky, and I know what I want!! I've really been into giving gift certs. lately... if you chose a store the person really likes, it shows that you put thought into it, but wanted to be sure the person got what he or she wanted.
Good luck! :D

I think That's what I'm gonna do...I'll get my sister a gift certificate to a clothing store maybe kmart or walmart so she can get her self some clothes. I may go to a regular clothing store so she don't spend it on the kids or the house. She does that alot.
Then I'll get her son a gift certificate to like K-B toys so he can pick what he wants. Their b-days are 5 days apart.

I think gift certificates are a great idea for anybody. Sometimes I will put the certificate in something -- like a CD case for a wal-mart gift certificate for a teen who may like to buy lots of CDs. Here is what I did with some gift certificates for my stepdaughter's birthday one year:
Movies -- placed them in a movie popcorn bag (which I asked them for) with crumpled yellow and white tissue paper to look like popcorn.
McDonald's -- rolled the certificates up in tubes, then placed them in a french fry box.
Baskin Robbins -- placed the certificates in a sundae cup with lid
Walmart -- placed the gift card in a CD case.
(There may have been a couple more ideas, but that is all I can think of right now.
For Christmas last year, we gave her money (she's 17 -- just turned 18, and kind of hard to buy for) ... since I didn't want to just give her an envelope full of money, I bought a book about money folding. I folded money into different shapes from the book, put each design in a box with a little note ...
Money folded into a "shirt" with a note that said "for you to go shopping at the after-holiday sales."
Money folded into a "Christmas tree" with a note that said "for you to do something fun on your winter break."
Money folded into a "butterfly" that said "for you to save for a rainy day!" -- like that will ever happen!
Money folded into a "heart" with a note that said "just because we love you."
Just something I do to make giving money seem not so boring.

I didn't know Mad Magazine was still around! I loved that growing up ... My Dad would buy it, then my older brother would read it, then finally ... I would get to have it. There were seven of us in the house, but I only remember us three liking the magazine. My older sisters, of course, liked girl magazines (I remember something called Tiger Beat, maybe?).
