small party while traveling? ideas?

Ok, so our move date is the 16th of JULY now....dd 5th birthday....what should I do....we are so crazed here, I can't even organize a small party for her here, or should I....I was thinking of doing a small thing in a hotel for her with just us immediate family...nothing fancy...oh some one help....please....:\

Kind of fogure out where you'll be and look in the travel guide for a restaurant. Dress up a little--5 is a great age for a 'young lady' party.

My kids would love to stay in a hotel for their birthday.......I'm thinking they probably wouldn't invite me though!

thanks Cathy...she is excited about staying in hotels for the trip....me too....;) I think we will make it a dinner out thing, or take in...and tv...two of her favorite things.....I just felt kinda bad we were moving on her day...though my father and his wife would love to throw her a party when we get there....so....well see.....my baby will be 5 WOW8o when did that happen....:lol:

How about having 5 special small gifts for her to unwrap during the day (things that both kids could enjoy in the car)? Sing Happy Birthday every hour on the hour.....let her pick a spot to stop for lunch, and use "swimming" at the hotel as the birthday activity. Before you leave have her decorate a birthday crown...or a birthday necklace to wear on that day. Make a sign to hang in the car window that says, "wave to me.... it's my 5th birthday". It'll be a neat memory for her...moving to California on her 5th birthday!:)

Great ideas MaryL. I also give little debbie snack cakes with candles to some of friends. It will help not to carry a big cake along. I bet she will remember her 5 birthday for a long time.

dh and I talked it over...I love the 5 little gifts idea..and I think we are going to do that on her birthday........but we are also going to have a Cake party on the 13th...down at the lake....all the realatives can come and we will also grill hot dogs and such....kinda a birthday / farewell party....:)
