I'm having dd's party  at Chuck E Cheese's this year... I decided I'm too tired and there's too much else going on (like pre-packing in the hopes I'll be buying a house soon!) to do a party here this year. Not to mention that there's hardly enough room. Anyway, I'm going to be taking a :bdaycake: and ice cream to her school and don't want to have to spend much more on party stuff. Anyone have ideas for making different hat shapes? The only ones I can come up with are the regular conical-shaped hats and maybe a crown hat for dd. I'm drawing a blank! I was going to cut them out of construction paper, then let dd help me decorate them with stickers, glitter, etc, then staple on some elastic. Any unique ideas  are welcome and appreciated! Don't really have a theme this year, since we're doing her main party at CEC.
Trying to keep the rest simple and cheap!

TIA! :D

The only one I can think of is the basic triangle shape one. It kind of looks like a boat... I don't eben think I remember hopow to do it... I also used something similar as pilgrams hats for thanksgiving. I'll let ya know if I can think of any more or if I can remeber how to do those. Good luck! Vea

Years ago, I got some hat making kits called Wacky Wendys paper plate fun kits. Basically, what she did was fold a paper plate in half. The cheap flimsy type with scalloping around the edge. The entire outer edge (scalloping) will be the band that goes aroung the head. In the interior of the band, or the center of the folded plate, draw your picture. The kit picture shows plates with color on one side. I don't know it they were spray painted?

Try the first one doing a simple design like a heart. Fold the plate in half. Draw half of a heart like we did as kids. The bottom of the heart will connect into the scalloping area. Still with the plate folded, cut around the heart without disconnecting from the scalloping band. Continue cutting around the band. When done open the plate and bend the heart up. That gives you an idea how to do it. From there you can draw your own design. For example you could make birthday cakes and let the kids color them. I found castles really easy to make. Any design with symetry. To change the size of the hat to fit smaller or larger heads, just adjust how far around the scalloped edge you cut.

You can do the same thing to make a mask. Instead of folding the design up to make a hat, fold it down.

Or you can cut out the head band part with just a circle design cut out and flipped up. Then glue or staple on whatever design and decorations you want. Maybe write their name in the circle and let the kids decorate it.

We've decorated paper plates too - cut out the middle circle and you're left with the outer band (duh) and then we've stapled tulle, ribbon, streamers, etc. around the edges. We've done them at Easter time as Easter bonnets.

Good luck and have a great time at Chuck's!! :)

Funny story - dh and took dd there when she was like, 2 1/2 - dh was sitting at a table when CEC came by and accidentally (yeah, right!) ;) TRIPPED the mouse!! That mouse fell flat on his face!!
I'm sure he was ticked, but what could he do???
Dd remembers it to this day.......... too funny.

The paper plate hats sound really cute!

If you decide to do the cone shaped hats you can buy some toulle(?) at the fabric store and run a small piece through the top of the hat. It looks like a princess hat.

Something else I have made .... Take a piece of cellophane wire, the kind you can wrap a package with that sometimes has stars or hearts around it, cut it to fit around your dd's head. Take a bunch of curling ribbon, curl it and then tie it on the back of the headband to run down the girls backs.

Thought I'd let ya'll know what I decided to do. I did the paper plate idea, found a website with Pooh coloring pages, re-sized them, printed them, then glued them onto the plates. I'm going to let the kids color their own hats. I figured they'd enjoy it and the teachers would love having someone else plan an activity! Here's the site if anyone wants to print out some coloring pages for dk's.... the pics are really cute

I did a right click copy, then pasted into word so I could resize!
