What's up today? I'm just going to try to get some of this laundry done. I had a Neurology mid-term yesterday, and I'm wiped out! No company this weekend - that's a first in 3 weeks. Oldest ds has to be at school early for the 3rd time this week - big science test - they're having early morning tutoring sessions for it. Life was not this hard when I was in 6th grade.

Hey Donna-if I had had a neurology test I would be more than wiped-I'd be brain dead!! glad you survived it!
I think life is much more complicated for 6th graders than it was for us. I am not sure I ever studied for a test in 6th grade. Maybe we didn't have them? :)
We are off to Denver today since it is spring break. A van full of 4 kids and my mil and sil has me a bit concerned. I am not and would not be a good bus driver!! oh well, better go. Have a great day!!

That's exactly what I was thinking - I don't even remember having tests in 6th grade. Of course then it was grade school and now it's middle school. What are you going to do in Denver?

Heck, 6th grade was still elementary school for me!!!! LOL

DH, who is a snooze alarm hitter, turned OFF the alarm this am and we only woke up cause the teenage boy who lives next door and has those anti mufflers on his car left at 7:15 , 15 MINUTES BEFORE WE NEED TO LEAVE!!! Man, threw those kids out of bed, threw some clothes on them, threw food at them and threw them on the bus!!!!! LOL Poor ds had this sort of glazed look to him! He also said he had a sore throat and that's usually is one of the signs of a croup episode!!! Keep your fingers crossed!

Raining again...yuck!

I spent the morning with ds at preschool. He has been very apprehensive again about going lately, so I called his teacher and asked if I could spend the day with them. It was actually a lot of fun and interesting to see what they do. I wish I could go more often. I LOVED hearing all of the little one's stories and comments. :) And, I made about ten new friends today! LOL!

btw - I agree about 6th grade - when did it get so complicated? Yikes!

Donna,
Glad that you survived the test Donna.

Ann
I'll keep my fingers crossed for your ds Ann. Bet this is one time your glad that the neighbors car is loud LOL!

Beth
Hope you have fun in Denver Beth. Let us know how it goes.

Karla
Glad you had fun at preschool with ds today. What do you think might be making him apprehensive to go? I hope that it is just a phase.

My day went pretty well, but I am so glad that tomorrow is Friday. I put in my resignation notice yesterday. My last day there is May 2. I hope that I last that long. LOL!

I don't think ds has ever really bonded with either of his teachers. We have had some issues throughout the year and I thought things were getting better, so this has me baffled. He tells me he is lonely when he is there. :( Why did you put in your resignation? Did you post earlier that you were quitting? Forgive me if you did - lots on my mind today. What are your plans once you are done there?

Good Afternoon all! It sounds like everyone is up and busy...and btw TXmom, I've been up since 6AM LOL

Busy morning...I had to go to the hospital and have a doppler (ultrasound) done on my leg. It's been hurting a lot and they want to be sure there are no clots. Thankfully there aren't...just bad veins. The tech said I should consider having them fixed (just one leg) since it wakes me up almost every night. I don't know what that involves so I'm not too eager so sign up just yet!
After that, a trip to the mall :) I'm looking for a wrap/shawl for my oldest dd to wear with her formal dress...no luck yet. Save that for another day I guess.

I'm in between taxi runs right now...two home, one to go! LOL

I hope everyone is having a good one! :)

PS - Ann, weren't you just tempted to roll over and skip school? I would have been! LOL

My brain feels like mush today. I haven't gotten much sleep lately and I have been trying to nap today but dk's aren't cooperating. Thought I'd come here and see what was up. Sounds like everyone has lots going on! I had MOPS this morning and dh called and wants to go bowling with the kids tonight.

Is it bad varicous veins?? My neighbors had her's injected with something so that they weren't so noticeable..don't think that it was very medical! LOL
Hope you can get some relief

A little! LOL

I don't know if I posted that I was resigning earlier, but dh is in the military and we are stationed in Germany. He is getting out and we are moving to FL. I quit so I would have tome to get packed and clean the apt. before we have to leave. Plus this way I can make sure my paycheck is correct. They haven't been getting them right lately.

Yes, Ann, vericose veins...at least I think that's what is causing the pain. It's wakes me up at night :( The dr said it could also be a nerve as it follows a nerve path and they might have to look into that ...not so sure abou that idea - wonder if it hurts? As for getting the veins fixed, I'll do if if the pain persists..I'd like to sleep all night!

Leigh, I bet your excited to get back the states! Good Luck with the packing..and I hope they get your pay right! :)

It's not quite 9:30pm and I'm wiped. Don't know why.
My allergies (grass, molds, polen, - you know, all the enviornmental stuff) have been killing me big time today. The meds just don't seem to be working as well this year. Hope I don't have to go for the shots. Needles are not for me.

Karla ~~ so you enjoyed pre-school! So many people say to me, 'how can you stand being with all those kids, all day long. I don't know how you do it.'
I just try not to think of it as 'work' . The pay may not be the best, but it meets my needs. Besides how many places can you get paid to finger paint, play dress up, sing songs, and act like a kid again without looking silly.
:silly:
I hope your visit will help your son feel more comfortable. Have you ever considered changing pre-schools.(if there are others in your area). ? Did your son seem to have any special playmates when you were there?. It's too bad he hasn't bonded with his teachers. It is important that all the children in our care feel cared for and special. How long before he gets a new teacher? The children in our centre are all divided by age groups. 3 - 18 mo., 18 - 24 mo. 2 - 2 1/2, 2 1/2 -3. 3 - 4 (my class) :) , 4 - 5, and kindergarten.

That's what I love about kindergarten. You don't have to act too much like a grownup. :wiggle:

And who said you can never go back again? If this is my second childhood, I'll take 3rds and 4ths.

:silly:  :silly:

Wow, this is post # 100. Looks small compared to some, but I didn't think I would make it this far for a while.

03-31-2001, 07:21 AM
Ryleigh and kat... I cracked up reading your posts about working with small children. I love my students. One of my kids asked me, "Do you have a job, Miss Cathy?" I answered that no I just got to go to school every day. Most of them think that I live there. I enjoy the children in my program way better than most of the adults. (Although none of the adults has ever bitten me or thrown up on me.) The other nice thing about the kids is they are interested in anything new, they don't laugh at the way I sing, and they are amazed that I can read. Sometimes I have to laugh at that image. Of course, when I come home, my dd's take me down a few pegs. I don't seem to "understand anything". Oh well......

Right now I'm :banghead: in hopes to get my memory back! LOL! I think you did post it earlier - it sounded familiar, but I couldn't remember the details. Thanks for reminding me and I hope all goes well!! :)

I LOVED preschool! :) One little girl asked me if I wanted to be a teacher when I GROW UP!! ROFL! If I'm 30, when exactly can I expect to grow up? :sillyface I loved all of their comments and questions. I can see where it would drive a teacher NUTS after a while, but I thought they were all so cute! :) DS didn't venture too far away from me when I was there and the teacher seemed to have little, if any, one on one with the kids. I think I had more interaction with some of those kids than she did. This is her first year and sometimes she just seems annoyed by the kids and all of their questions. :( She still doesn't greet them as they arrive and that still bugs me. I have talked to her and the director about it. I am definitely changing preschools next year. I think this quarter ends for him in May, so we'll see how it goes. He is one of the youngest in this class. He'll be 4 in April most have turned 5 since they started in Sept, were together last year, and are off to kdgn. in the fall. Thanks for your feedback and for letting me vent on this again!!

Karla, I wanted to be a teacher when I was in High School, but was advised that 1) teachers are a dime a dozen, 2) you'll never make enough money, and 3) it would be a waste of your talents. I took that advice, and studied Marketing in College. After I stayed home while my children were little, I got a couple of jobs in Sales. HATED IT!!! Then I happened into a preschool with a friend who needed a pair of extra hands for heights and weights, and I felt like I had found another home. I quit my other job and started subbing, and applied for a regular position. I got it, and went back to school part time to build my knowledge and feed my interest. I absolutely love what I do.
I'd like to tell my high school advisors 1) GOOD teachers are always welcomed and can find jobs, 2) Money doesn't buy passion and fulfillment, and 3) what were you thinking?!--this is what I was made to do! :happydnc:

Oh by the way, I was 36 when I visited that preschool. It's never too late to change what path you're on. Teaching isn't for everyone, but I'm glad I wasn't too scared to make a change.

I totally agree with you that "GOOD teachers are always welcomed and can find jobs and Money doesn't buy passion and fulfillment." I am glad you had the courage to follow your dreams. When I think about that day is ds's class I get a big smile  on my face. I think it is something I would definitely consider doing once my dks are in school full time. Thanks for your words of wisdom! So glad you decided to become a teacher - the little ones are lucky to have someone like you!! :)

Once in a while when I run into one of my kids at the grocery story or Target... they can't believe I'm THERE and not home... at the Day Care. They'll go so far as to ask my how I got out and why I'm where I am. LOL :) Then they go on to ask me if I'll be back for them by tomorrow. LOL When they see me the next morning they look relieved that I actually made it back for them. LOL I think that they think that I just sit/stay at home all day/night waiting for them to come over to play. LOL Their SOOO darn cute sometimes. :)

My shift ends at 4:30, so I leave before a lot of the children in my class. They don't realize where I'm going though. They think that all the teachers live together in the staff room. (They know we go there on our lunch breaks.)
about 30 of us in one tiny room, I don't think so.
