Ok - I could use some imput.

The den furniture is this:
sofa - midnight blue
recliner - medium blue
oversized chair/ottoman - cream/blue check
<I didn't put all this together, remember some of these are hand-me-downs!>

So, the sofa stays the way it is. It picks up the blue in the window treatments. I'd like to pull in some deep red - thought throw pillows in red on the sofa and maybe a red check/plaid on the oversized chair/ottoman. I don't know what to do w/the recliner. (I know what I'd LIKE to do w/it! Pitch it!) But oh well....

So, what do you think would look nice? I sure could use some ideas.

TIA

Do you have any other red in the room? If you don't I am thinking that it might clash some.

How about throwing a pretty afghan over the back of the recliner??? That way it could be almost any color/pattern...compliment your other pieces, and also be functional for cozying up at night or in the early morning. I might also find some artificial flowers (red) to place around the room in a vase or two...I'd probably keep the oversized chair the way it is, or is it in really bad shape??? Red/White checked furniture just says "PICNIC" to me (IMHO), although if it were a burgandy type red it might not be bad. Hmmmm...let us know what you decide.

The window treatments are done in a Waverly pattern w/navy, hunter and burgandy, etc. The sofa pillows coordinate and there is a dark red in the print. The kitchen is done in the same red, so I thought it would pull together nicely.
My mom thought a neutral slipcover for the chair would be a good idea.
We're going out tomorrow to see about recovering the chair in the coordinating Waverly print.

Thanks for the imput!

RED is a great idea! I think you should definately use the coordinating fabric if you can. It may be $$ though so just use the cream/neutral in the couch if you don't use the other. I just bought a bunch of plates, candles and holders to pull together all my colors and it is looking awesome if I do say so myself! The flowers are a great idea too. A new rug maybe? Which Waverly print are you using? Is it from Target? They are on sale this week I think.

I am so depressed! I went looking at fabric to have this checkered chair slipcovered, and it would be 175.00 labor and at least 10-14 yards of fabric. That's $300!! I took the chair b/c I can't afford to go buy one!
The storebought slipcovers don't work, because of the t-cushion in the chair. This is so frustrating!!!!
Mom and I are headed out on Saturday to check out more fabric and see if we can find someone to make the slipcovers a little more inexpensively... wish me luck ( I ended up crying in the upholstry aisle today!)

How frustrating! Can you find someone who does sewing as a side job/hobby out of their home who would do it for less? Hang in there!

Mom and I are on the hunt for someone now. It's just incredible what you have to pay for furniture - new or to look new.

I agree!! Hopefully you can find someone with reasonable rates. Maybe try advertising on public bulletin boards or in a weekly shopper type paper??? Or ask around - maybe a friend or someone you know knows of someone?? Good luck!!

I think a red or burgandy throw over the recliner would be a great idea to carry on the red scheme of things... also the red/burgandy pillow's on the sofa would be an added plus. Red/bugandy candles, flower's, or like someone already said... maybe a red/burgandy rug. You can pretty much accessories with just about anything to keep those particular color's going. Good luck... let us know what you find and how it turns out. Good luck!!!

Diane...

I guess the saleswoman at the furniture store was telling me the truth when she said that it would cost just as much to re-apolstry as to buy new. Bummer.

I think it really depends. I got my sofa reupholstered for less than $500...couldn't replace it for that...chairs for $300, dining room chairs for $15..sure can't replace them for that!
