The message boards were down this morning while we were doing some upgrades. Don't worry! None of the main things have changed, we just added some new features.

There is a new "Calendar" button at the top of the page where we will be able to see each other's birthdays and any events that you want to add.

There is a new "Buddy List", where you can have a list of your friends and send them private messages. Be sure to visit the "profile" button at the top of the page and click "edit options" to have a window pop up when you receive a PM (personal message).

There is a Spell Check now! Before you post a message, you have the option (at the bottom of the post) to preview and Spell Check your message before submitting.

There is a new feature that allows you to have "Favorite Threads" which lets you keep track of new posts in a thread that you like. At the top left of the page you will see: "Receive updates to this thread".
You can only see this while you are in a thread.

There is a new poll feature available when you are making a post.

*Features that are coming in the next few days:*

Avatars: little pictures that "represent" you that will be shown under your username.

Rating: this feature allows you to rate a thread.

"Happy Birthday" list on the main page that will say "Happy Birthday" to whoever is having a birthday that day.

A new "Most Active Topics" search feature.

Lots of new smilies!!

***I suggest that everyone goes to the "Profile" button and go through the "edit profile" and "edit options" to customize the new features. Be sure to add your birthdate so that our calendar will fill up!!!

Play around with the new features and let us know what you think (be nice!)

Pam, when I click on view new posts, it says that this feature has been disabled by the administrator...
how do I see new posts now?

also, what is subscription to a thread? what does that do? I accidentally unsubscribed to a thread, is it gone?

Does it seem like it runs slower now???

I thought it was running slower too... just thoght it was my computer. LOL I'd also appreciate getting that View New Post button back... I REALLY need it!!! :) It takes WAY too much time scrolling all over the place looking for all of the new posts. :) Sorry to complain but... Ugh!!!!!!!

Diane - On the home page there is a View New Posts option, but it is moved to the right side.

I also thought it seemed slower and thought it was just my computer, too! LOL!

Seems like a lot of new info again, but we did do pretty well getting used to this board when it was the new one! :) Just as long as this isn't a regular thing (changes and upgrades on a regular basis) in an attempt to keep us on our toes! LOL!

If I didn't know better I'd think this was a conspiracy to trap us into spending lots of time here!! :) LOL

I clicked in early this morning and everything was down. From the looks of things now, I like it!!

Questions though--
With this buddy list, does the buddy know if you put them in your list? Is there like an authorization request or something or can anybody put anybody in their buddy list?

With the private messaging, does the little box indicating you have an P.M. show up even if you aren't on the idea box?

Guess it will take time to figure it all out.

I really like the calendar idea!! I looked at it quickly--am I correct that we can put our own things on, for our personal use or put on things to share with other members?

Thanks!!

I'm a bit of a technophobe, so I'll stick with the simple stuff for a while. But it looks really cool here, with all those hopping and bopping smilies!

Here is a serious post....

I have some specific questions about curriculum and pedegocial methods....

1) Has anyone out there ever developed Early Childhood curriculum for minority groups?
2) In terms of development what is the normal development (gross motor/fine motor) for children ages 2 and 3? Should these children know colours? Count to 10? Know Dolch words? Print?
3) What are some excellent Gross and Fine Motor Skill activities for these children?

4) When dealing with physically challenged children between the ages of 2 and 4 years of age what types of learning strategies can be implemeted for children who are ADHD or FAS or even FAE?

5) In terms of comp. software what would you recommend as being the best for the above mentioned age groups. Explain why you selected that particular software.

6) In terms of teaching a different language other than English, what would be the best way to implement a second language (strategies)

I thank everyone for all their comments whether you are professionally trained to work with children or simply have lots of experience.
