My husband and I are having our third child in December. I really don't want any more children after this, but 2 out of 3 of ours were conceived while I was on the pill, so that ovbiously does not work for us. So we started talking about the big V- vasectomy.... it is a scary subject for dh... I am trying to be sensitive to his needs, but I feel that this is the best solution. We are both young, and we agree that we do not want any more children.

Have any of you gone through this? How did you deal with the sensitive subject?

Tell him to get over it if he ever wants to have sex again! Just kidding, not making light of your problem, I just couldn't resist!
Here's how I'd play it, tell him you've done your part by using the pill. You've given birth 2 (soon to be 3) times, so it's his turn to have some not-so fun things to his body! From what I know, a vasectomy is easier than a tubal, hysterectomy, etc. I've have friends who had tubals done right after they had their babies and they said it was horrible. You don't want to spend the first few weeks of your newborn's life being miserable, you should be able to bond and enjoy your new baby. Maybe do some research and present him with the results that show a vasectomy has a quicker recovery time than any of the female procedures.
Good luck!

My dh had one when our youngest was 2. We also knew that we were done having dks...2 boys were enough for us :) . I didn't want to be on the pill for forever...and dh was okay with the idea of the "v". It wasn't that bad...definately out patient. I think we were at the clinic for 2 hours total...dh totally "milked" the recovery period  . The doctor told him to stay in bed and rest for 2 days...and believe me...he did! He never had any problems with the healing...it really wasn't that bad. Heck...especially compared to childbirth!!!!! LOL

My dh and I just went through making this decision. Because my dh is only 32 I didn't want him to have a V. If something were to happen to me/dks he would probably want to have more. I opted for the IUD because the pill makes me sick. They last for 5 or 10 years. I have the 5 year, it's called the Murina. Good luck!

dh had his when dd was a few months old we knew we didn't want anymore children. And I also had two while being on the pill. (Not that we regreted them we planned on having two. We just didn't plan the when ) It was just a few hours at the hospital then sitting on the couch for the weekend with his drugs, tv, liquids, snacks and sports magazines. Wasn't bad at all. So glad he did it now now more worrying every month.

My dh had one after our fourth child. Want to hear a funny story? Maybe this will convince your hubby....

After the vasectomy, you are supposed to abstain from sex for a while to make sure all sperm are gone. My husband told me the doctor said he should still be sure to ejaculate at LEAST 16 times during the four weeks following the operation, but just be sure not to have 'normal' sex with me, so I wouldn't get pregnant. So dh said, "gee, hon, can't you help me out with this? We can't do THIS but we can do THAT".

Being young and stupid, I did. :P

Hubby was nice and relaxed during those four weeks. I didn't find out he had made the whole thing up until a couple of months later! Good thing I'm used to being a fool for that man.

Dh had one. No problems except in his head. Cheaper, easier to do, fewer complications, quicker recovery. good luck with your decision,

A tubal requires a general anesthetic
A vasectomy can be done with a local at a doc's office.

Much lower risk for the second and in many cases much cheaper depending on your insurance.

I had my tubes tied after my ds was born. Dh and I never really discussed him having a vasectomy- I always just thought about having my tubes tied and being done with it. After have two big babies- I'm glad that I did as I NEVER want to give birth again! (Dh has since said if I would have asked him to get one he would have- I just never gave him that option)
