One of my clients wants me to clean the grout in her shower, and believe it or not, I've never done that before. (I've never had tile in any of my showers.) I know it involves a toothbrush but if I have to use any strong chemicals, I'm afraid I'll choke, fall over and die. Any suggestions?

thanks :D

Bathroom tile can be cleaned easily by soaking paper towels in bleach and leave them on the grout for at least one hour. When you remove them the mildew is magically gone.

GLASS-TOP-STOVE CREME CLEANER.... With this you won’t have to scrub and it will not knock you over with fumes! I’ve never personally tried this but I had a friend who swears by it. :)

HYDROGEN PEROXIDE... Spray/sponge or mop it on... it works! . If there is a build up it must be cleaned first, then use the peroxide. Do not wax, as this will cause grout in floor tiles to look dirty. I apply the peroxide, leave it 10 minutes or so, then wipe off excess. disinfects too. DO NOT use with bleach. if you have stubborn stains, make a paste of peroxide and baking soda and rub. WORD OF CAUTION - peroxide will discolor fabrics, be careful.

Vinegar... Just put it on, scrub than rinse with water. It will clean better than any household cleaner. It's very cheap. As a added bonus; it isn't toxic.

Wow Diane! Now I just have to decide what to try first. Thanks!

Three walls and a built in shelf around my tub are tile. I like to use Clorox cleanup spray with bleach. Usually I just spray it and walk away, rinsing it when its shower time. I plan on trying just bleach water sprayed on a daily basis and see what happens.

If I haven't kept up with the spraying then I use Soft Scrub with Bleach. That's one cleaning supply item I wouldn't want to give up. It comes out thick and creamy so I smear it around with rubber gloves and walk away. Later I come back and rinse it off. I wind up doing very little scrubbing but when I do, I use a big brush so I cover more area.

My mom's dh is a tile guy and he uses this stuff called Zap. I've seen it advertised on tv, but you should be able to get it from Wal-mart or Home Depot.

Personally my favorite is a product called De-Scale-It (for bathrooms). Works like a charm!

I don't know why ?( but none of these store bought items never ever seem to really work for me. I've tried Tilex... even this zap, and although they both improve it a bit, it doesn't take it totally away, at least not to my expectations. 8o They use to have a product out (I can't remember the name of it) a few years ago that really worked well... you could literally stand there and watch it disappear, but they stopped making it. 8o If I had known they were going to stop making it I would have bought myself a few (LOT) extra bottles of it. :) Anyway... good luck!!
