Did anyone see the new reality series on Fox "Boot Camp" last night? We had it on for a few minutes and couldn't take the yelling anymore.
I no absolutely no idea what the military is like--can anyone tell me how close this is to reality?
Anyone else have comments about the show?

I haven't seen the show, but I heard Rosie talk about it and she said the same thing about out of control yelling. She said one lady quit and I guess the lady said her mistake wasn't quitting, it was signing up for the show in the first place! Ugh!
I watched but have to say the yelling was terrible. It did settle down some and in one part everyone was very supportive when one of the ladies had trouble with run. I did find it interesting to see who got kicked off...I don't remember names, but he was the one that seemed to talk down to the women...and they all voted him gone! :) There's a guy, too, who is playing everyone...fake tears when he apologized etc...said he's there to play a game...he kept wanting to laugh..didn't want to take the drill sargeants seriously. Not sure if I'll keep watching though...depends how bored I am!

didn't see it myself but heard it was pretty dumb. Just a lot of yelling and demoralizing of women. Doesnt sound like something I'll be watching.

I've been to boot camp (basic training) but haven't watched the show so I can't really comment. DH watched a couple of minutes and changed the station. He called it pretty boring. I asked him if he felt the yelling was the same as when he was in basic and he answered *I guess* which in Vic speak means absolutely nothing!
From what I've heard basic is getting progressively easier and easier so even if I watched the show I couldn't compare it to today's actual basic training. I went from Thanksgiving 86 - Jan 87. I was there for Thanksgiving, my 21st birthday, Christmas and New Years. Because we were there over the holidays they increased the suicide info and watches. A couple of people in my group decided they couldn't make it but at that point it's fairly easy to get out. I know when my uncle went (in the 70s) he had to run 1 1/2 miles backwards. He and his TI didn't exactly see eye to eye. By the time I was in they couldn't touch you anymore. Now I've heard they have restrictions on what and how they yell. It seemed to me that they treated my female squadron better then the guys.
I can easily see the purpose of yelling and high stress for the real thing. Afterall, can you imagine what those 24 Navy people are going through right now? I doubt if I'd want to watch it and can't see any purpose behind it. None of this *real tv* stuff is to my taste though.
