I got the results of my upper GI test today. I have a hiatal hernia. For now the doctor is going to keep me on meds for a couple months and see how it goes. Last resort, I think is surgery.
Anyone else have experience with this?
I've been so busy I haven't had time to research it on the web yet. That's my plan for the weekend since I work the rest of the week.
I didn't know you were having health problems. I hope the meds work!

My mother had one of those and the meds did not work for her. She was having an awful time of it this spring. She works in a hospital and reads a lot of medical journals. She found out about this new lazer proceedure and was able to find a Dr who was willing to do it. She did have some post surgical complications and had to but fed intraveniously for a week, but she's much better now. Dispite everything she's glad she had it done.
I hope the meds work for you. :)

Isn't that what your dh had too? ?(
Sure hope the meds help and you don't need surgery.

Diane, Thanks for the link!! That was very helpful!
Darlene, No, my dh had a bleeding ulcer and some other smaller ulcers that were caused from too much aspirin and ibuprofen.
I never had heartburn until I was pregnant with the kids. After the last 2 it got increasingly worse. If I didn't take some kind of acid controller at night I'd wake up sick during the night or in the morning.
A little over a year ago I got sick of dealing with that and went to a doctor. She put me on meds for acid reflux. They helped but after a year I started having problems with being sick in the mornings. I went to a new doctor in town who specializes in internal medicine. He ran this upper GI test and found the hernia.
My dad has one too but I'm not sure if it's hereditary or not.
Jeannie- This doctor said the surgery involved inserting some kind of tube or something. He didn't say anything about it being a laser surgery though. I'm hoping to not have to go that route! 8o
Thanks!!
I hope that the meds work now that they have figured out what is actually wrong with you.
I've not had any personal experience either, but keep us posted on how things are going with the meds! Hopefully they work very effectively and quickly!!! (((HUGS)))
