View Full Version : need ideas for a 7 year olds discipline
ds has gotten a smarty mouth...its not so much what he says...but how he says it....its a tone thing....we have already taken away so many priviliges....I am almost at my wits end...he is turning 7 this month...and I am loosing it...help....any new creative ideas? I guess this isn't really about punishment...because we are into the time out in your room phase of life...(he hates being sent there) I am I suppose looking for advice on how to turn the tone around...and expertise in the 7 year old boy thing....;)
tia...:tearhair:
Have you tried ignoring him when he speaks that way? Sit him down in a calm moment, say something like "You know that Daddy and I have not been liking the tone of voice you have been using lately, that is why you have been sent to time out so much. From now on, when you speak to me in that ugly tone of voice, I will not answer you until you can speak nicely to me. I am also only going to tell this to you once." And then ignore him. Maybe he is getting some kind of twisted payback by riling you up this way.
HUM...maybe your on to something here Ann....going to have that talk this afternoon...I'll let you know what happens tommorrow...;)
Interesting Age...huh...8o

I've had to come really hard down on her for this stuff too!! I am still at the taking away priviledges stage.

My friends dd has been going throgh the same stage...she's constantly yelling at her parents!!
They have started doing exactly what you said and ignored her...but we've taken it a step further and sy to he that if she is going to yell at them...they will not listen...and she should walk away until she's ready to talk nicely. It seems to work.... The yelling has cut down alot.
Good luck!
