We went yesterday morning to pick up our new puppy :doggie:

When we got to the breeder, there were a 2 other families arriving. We all were led to a huge gated in area, and the breeder made us clean our hands with a sterilizer. Then she started to hand out the puppies so we could play with them, and examine them. All the puppies that she handed out were girls. A 4th family arrived, and she said to them, "you must be here for a boy" they replied that they were also here for a girl. Guess what??? There were only 3 girls and the rest were boys. I was so scared :nervous: that she was going to say that we were the last ones on the list and we would have to wait. She checked her list, and another family was told that they would either have to come back or take a boy (they chose a boy). All the girls were a goldeny red colour, except for one who was a light beige colour. I really had my eye on the light coloured one, but another family picked her up first and seemed to one her. Thankfully, it was the family who ended up chosing a boy pup, so I scooped the beige puppy up quickly :)

She is sooo cute....we named her Bailey. She was born on June 21 at weigh 6 pounds 9 ounces. She was so good yesterday. A little nervous coming home in the car, but she slept a lot. The kids were so excited :yippee: all day long. We took her to the vet in the afternoon; she was so good she fell asleep while he was examining her. She now weighs 8 pounds. She did great yesterday and peed and pooed outside all day.

Last night was a little tiring. We are trying to crate train her. She cried for a while when we left her alone in the kitchen. I stayed with her until she fell asleep, and lifted her into the crate. I couldn't get the door closed to the crate. Went upstairs and went to sleep. She cried on and off during the night, but I only came down when she started barking at 4:30. She had crawled out of the crate into the gated area of the kitchen. I took her outside to pee (it was really peaceful outside at this time  ) and stayed with her until she fell back asleep. At 6:45 I heared her yelping again, so I came down and took her outside and she peed and pooed (what a good girl) .

Do I sound like a proud new mommy???? :D

She sounds adorable! Be sure to take pics and let us see her! Oh, I'm soooo envious! After that picture you posted, I can't stop thinking about how much I'd like to have one!

Congrats on your new addition, Marla. The breed is beautiful. Puppies are a lot of work, but it's worth the effort to train them well. Puppyhood is much shorter than childhood, and they don't roll their eyes or make you take them shopping! LOL

When she nips, say No firmly, and then quit playing with her.
If she is nipping when you walk by, say NO and then give her a chew toy.
Make sure she has lots of chew toys cause teething hurts. Plus it's a great stress releiver for them

If you post pictures I'll be hopelessly lost, lol!!! I wanna 'nother puppy too but no way!!! I love the name Bailey, too. From your description of her it sounds as though it fits well. Ann's right about the chew toys... the more the merrier! Have fun with your new baby! :)

How fun Marla!

Just a note....if you give her a chew toy be sure it is a "toy" and not for example an old shoe. Friends of ours gave their puppy an old running shoe...which seemed to work great...until she then chewed up their new shoes! 8o Dogs can't determine what is old/new and will chew on whatever they are used to.

Thanks everyone for the congratulations. We actually went to a puppy name site, and wrote down about 6 names. We narrowed it down to either Bailey or Shelby, but when we saw her, we decided she was definately a Bailey.

I have a few more pictures on my camera that I have to take before I can develop them. Once I get them back, I'll try to figure out to post it :\ Actually, if I ever take her to camp, I'll get the photographer to snap some pictures of her on his digital camera.

I called a puppy trainer today. She is going to come in tomorrow for a private 1 hour session to help us with the nipping. We are doing everything that you guys have said (tons of chew toys, "no" firmly, saying "ouch", giving a toy instead of our legs etc) but it really isn't slowing down at all. A friend of mine used this puppy trainer and she said that she was amazing and almost seemed part dog....the dog listened to her instantly. I'll cross my fingers and keep you posted.
